I gave birth to our 4th child, Sean Christian, on August 13, 1985. Sean was a ten pound, eight-ounce baby! Yes, it's true. Having a baby that size caused some health issues for me and I needed to stay in the hospital an extra day. Even though I came home to five-year old Chris, three-year old Emily, and two-year old Abby with baby Sean, I thought things had to be perfect. I went right into the kitchen and baked homemade bread, a big meal, and cookies from scratch with frosting. I was back in the hospital three days later. (Excerpt from Confidence: Now is Your Time)
I was a perfectionist. It was ridiculous. It wasn't working.
, I decided to be real and gave up perfection. One of the smartest things I ever did.
I bet if I asked you if you think other people should be perfect your answer would be "No". We don't expect you to be perfect either. So if you deal with perfectionism please stop. If you know someone else who does forward this message to them.
Perfectionism causes us to put our life on hold as we wait for the perfect time, as we wait for the project to be perfect, as we wait for the perfect organizing system, as we wait for our spouse to be perfect, etc. We're going to be waiting a long time.
Let me share this quote by Michael J. Fox that changed my life:
I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence I can strive for; perfection is God's business.
We can do our job with excellence, we can be an excellent parent, we can give an excellent presentation, we can write an excellent article, we can be an excellent daughter - just not perfect. That's freedom!

2nd Row: Speaking for the NSA Winter Workshop in Dallas.
3rd Row: Speaker and author, Jeffrey Hayzlett, was the keynote speaker at the NSA Winter Workshop. He and I were the only ones there from South Dakota. Celebrating my mom's 88th birthday. We also celebrated Micah's 20th birthday and our 33rd wedding anniversary in February but I don't have any good pictures for those!
4th Row: Speaking for SD Achieve in Sioux Falls. Hanging out with Addi on Valentine's Day.
5th Row: Very exciting day as my new book "Confidence: Now is Your Time" arrived!
