March is, we think, one of the most over-looked
months on the calendar. Sure, you have
St. Patrick's Day and occasionally Easter,
but not much else (except the NCAA
Tournament.) But let's face it, the days are
usually cooler than you want and quite often
a bit drizzly.
Well, we have a whole lotta stuff going on in
March and we are not letting a little rain or
wind or basketball interfere with our plans, and YOU
shouldn't either. There are many events happening
around town in March including the Gourmet Getaway
weekends, which have just opened up to
locals (more on that below)!
Downtown Walla Walla Foundation has just
added another Girls Night Out in March . .
.While many of you may have been shopping
downtown, you might not have been out on a
Girls Night Out night. Grab some of your best
girls and get out and see what downtown Walla
Walla has to offer.
And, of course, St. Patrick's Day is always one of our
favorite holidays on the calendar as we have
some great family traditions around the
holiday going back now 17 years! For those of you that
just want to
enjoy the festivities, we have plenty of
corned beef that you can buy by the pound and
we'll also have several accompaniments this
year too for your very own traditional St. Patrick's Day
meal. Dinner to take home, viola!
We have a new selection of great Belgian Beer
including several REAL Trappist beers. We
also have new wines, new lunch specials and
new cheeses. There is lots to tell you about
so, come check out what's in the bag!
| Wine |
 |
We still have some great pink wines available
if the sudden burst of sunshine makes you
think of warmer days and cooler wines. Most
are right around $10 right now and are a
steal at that price. We love a good rose with
some French Onion Soup, the perfect
combination of hot/cold, and we promise, you can't go
wrong with our new selection.
We also have some fantastic wines that are
priced under $20 that will make you think
twice about ever spending more. One of our
new Favorites is a 100% Tempranillo from
Spain that is just stunning. Just the right
balance of fruit and acid, well balanced but
BIG. This is not a wimpy wine. We have
several other new wines in and more coming in
all the time. And the greatest thing about
buying your wines from us, besides the great
selection and good prices, is that we
actually TASTE the wines before we buy them
and can actually TALK to you about them. We
can even suggest food pairing or find a match
with what ever you are eating. Just think of
it, a wine shop that actually knows the wine
they carry. . . Cheers.

| Cheese of the Month! |
 |
|
Our cheese of the month for March 2010 is
Buffalo Mozzarella. Why? Why not! Many of you
have been asking for this scrumptous cheese all
winter and we
were finally able to secure some. So, we will
have it in stock all month long for pizzas and
caprese salads (if you can find tomatoes) and
whatever else you want to use it for.
The
Buffalo's milk Mozzarella that we sell is flown in
from Italy and is some of the best you will find,
anywhere. Those who have tried
the brand that we carry already know. While it usually
goes
for $15 ea we'll be letting it go for $13 ea
this month only as our cheese of the month.

This family-run operation prides itself on
being the kind of company where George Zenner
can know and work with each individual
employee. He begins each day at Zenner's at
6:00 a.m. surrounded by the sweet and subtle
alder scent from the twin smokers in the
heart of the plant. While equipped with an
impressive array of modern equipment,
experienced hands still carefully craft much
at Zenner's. Strict levels of cleanliness and
order are maintained. Everything seems to
have its time and place in the ancient
sausage making process.
Striving for what founder George Zenner, Sr.
called "Eat-More Flavor", the Zenner's team
carefully combines savory spices and herbs
from around the world with the finest meats.
But it takes more than just great
ingredients. They also follow age-old
traditions in the curing, smoking and
"resting" of the meats, bringing each variety
to its absolute peak of flavor and texture
before it's rushed to market.
This is why we are now carrying Zenner's
sausages. We will be selling some during the
day to eat in store or you can buy them by the pound
to enjoy at home with friends and family. Come in and
try a Zenner's sausage and you'll see why we
made the switch. Better ingredients and care
make a better product.

While citrus season is winding down (we still
have some coming), our spring greens should be
arriving soon. In fact, we just received word
that one of our local suppliers should have greens
for us very soon if not this week! We will be
selling greens as they are available and we
are also going to be making salads again too for you
to nosh on here in the store.
Once asparagus season hits, which could be
very soon, we'll have that too and fresh
from the farm every Thursday.

| Fresh Pasta |
 |
|
We continue to make fresh pasta on Sunday and
we will be offering sheet pasta for those who
want to do it themselves at home, but with
out the hassle. If you have a special request
and need some for Sunday dinner, then call
ahead and we'll set some aside for you.
We also have a special opportunity for those
who want to learn to make their own pasta,
sign up for our Gourmet Getaway weekend class
on March 13. We'll show you how to make
dough, roll it out and shape and cut. We'll
even teach you a few quick sauces to impress
your friends and family - keep reading - more on this
below!

| Corned Beef |
 |
|
We continue to make our very special hand-cured,
store-brined corned
beef for sandwiches to eat in the store, but we also
sell it by the pound. We are brining a few
more briskets than usual for the upcoming St.
Patricks Day festivities. If you need some
for your party come see us - we got you covered! And,
if you have not had our corned beef before, ask
around... we think it's the best you will ever have!

| Walla Walla Gourmet Getaway Class for Locals! |
 |
|
We have recently been told that we can open
this class up to locals! So, if you are a
local who may not necessarily be interested
in a full weekend getaway, but rather a fun
filled cooking class right here in town, you
are in luck! For just $45, you can sign up
for our class! !
On March 13, Damon Burke
of Salumiere Cesario will be leading a class
on the art of making fresh pastas. We will
be paired with Watermill Winery for a
fun-filled afternoon of making your own fresh
pastas. You will learn how to make pasta
dough from scratch, roll out sheet pasta for
making filled pastas and then show you how to
turn sheet pasta into fantastic cut pastas.
We'll talk through some creative ways to fill
your pastas, and we will show you how to cook
your filled pasta in broth as done in
Italy.
If you are interested, please
click on the link below for more information
about this very exciting program, and be sure
to tell them you are a local interested in
the class only.

| Bread |
 |
|
While we don't talk much about our breads, we
wanted to be sure and tell you this. We have
teamed up with Walla Walla Bread Co. to
create a unique bread only available at
Salumiere Cesario. WWBC is baking a French
Batard exclusively for us! Twice the width of
a baguette so you get more meal (the inside)
to crust (the outside). Slightly crunchy on
the ouside and wonderfully chewy and light on
the inside, this is true artisan bread. And
it's only available here!

Can't wait to see you back in the store! Cheers!
