July Grocery Bag Walla Walla's Gourmet Grocery
July 2009

Summer is now in full swing as many of you may have noticed with the sweltering heat of late. Summer in Walla Walla is always an exciting time with the harvesting of wheat and onions, the wonderful stone fruits and the tomatoes! And soon, our winemakers will begin their work on this years' vintage of Walla Walla wines.

Walla Walla has a lot to offer those willing to look past the obvious and search for those hidden gems that continue to make the small towns in our country the cure for the big city blues. We continue to work with local family run farms to secure the best produce our valley has to offer. As Walla Walla's Gourmet Grocery, we continue to search far and wide to bring to Walla Walla the best of what the rest of the world has to offer. What else is happening you ask? Well. . .

Come check out what's in the bag!

  • Wine
    Hortus Rose

Rosé seems to be making a real comeback these days! So much so, that it is becoming harder to find great rosés available in this state. But fear not, we've got you covered. We have several great rosés in stock like:
Chateau Bel Aire Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
Tavel Rosé of Grenache Noir and Cinsault

We also have several new great white wines that will even make red wine drinkers smile.

Come see what's new on our wine racks! You won't be disappointed!

    Beer
    Beer Glass

We keep seeking out new beers for all of you beer lovers out there. If there is something that you have had while traveling and cannot find it here in Walla Walla, let us know and we'll seek it out for you and put in on the shelves! In the mean time we will keep bringing in great beers, including the following that are in stock today:
    Duvel
    Saison Dupont
    Foret Organic Saison
    Saison Imperial
    Moinette Brun and Blonde

    Cheers!

    Cheese
    Elk Mountain Cheese

Cheese remains our biggest selling item since day one. Maybe because we store our cheeses in a carefully crafted environment. Maybe because we cut our cheeses to order and wrap them carefully (and not in plastic!). Maybe because we hand select varieties that compliment the food and wine of our community. What ever the reason thank you for continuing to make us your source for cheese in the Walla Walla Valley.

Pholia Farm has just blessed us with three wheels of their magnificent cheese:

Covered Bridge - A mild and creamy raw milk washed curd cheese named after the historic Wimer Covered Bridge. Wild River's Nut Brown is added to the cheese during its make and adds its own unique character to the final product. Aged 3 months. If you have not tried this yet you are really missing out. Pholia farm does not produce a lot of cheese, but what they do produce is of the highest quality and truly an artisanal product. Stay tuned to our blog (here comes the shameless plug) thegrocersbag.blogspot.com for more up to date information.

And, don't forget that all of our cheeses are stored and aged in the only climate controlled, walk in cheese closet in the Pacific Northwest. Come in and taste why Salumiere Cesario is THE place to buy cheese in Walla Walla.

    Wear your colors. . .

Are you a curd nerd like the rest of us here? Well, it's time to represent by showing off your colors! The official Salumiere Cesario T-Shirts are here and available for sale. Short sleeves, for those warm days, printed with our (soon to be famous) beautiful four color CS logo and emblazoned on the back with our name, and available in both Men's and Women's styles and sizes. We also have our aprons available for sale! Wear your colors and show people what you care about, GOOD FOOD!

    Produce
    cipollini

Since opening day April 6, 2006 we have been championing local produce. It is always important to support our local farmers whenever possible as they are the stewards of the land, that land that makes up our community. Whenever local produce is in season, we will have some.

Right now we have fresh local greens and cippolini onions as well as stone fruits ready for you to take home and enjoy!
