    Hortus Rose

Ros seems to be making a real comeback these days! So much so, that it is becoming harder to find great ross available in this state. But fear not, we've got you covered. We have several great ross on order right now and expect them to be showing up in the near future. We'll let you know when they land with a blog and a Facebook update. We also have several new great white wines that will even make red wine drinkers smile. Come see what on our racks!

    Beer
    Beer Glass

We keep seeking out new beers for all of you beer lovers out there. If there is something that you have had while traveling and cannot find it here in Walla Walla, let us know we'll seek it out for you and put in on the shelves! In the mean time we will keep bringing in great beers, including the following:
    Duvel
    Saison Dupont
    Foret Organic Saison
    Saison Imperial
    Moinette Brun and Blonde

    Cheese
    Elk Mountain Cheese

Cheese remains our biggest selling item since day one. Maybe because we store our cheeses in a carefully crafted environment. Maybe because we cut our cheeses to order and wrap them carefully (and not in plastic!). Maybe because we hand select varieties that compliment the food and wine of our community. What ever the reason thank you for continuing to make us your source for cheese in the Walla Walla Valley.

Pholia Farm has just blessed us with three of their magnificent cheeses:

Covered Bridge - A mild and creamy raw milk washed curd cheese named after the historic Wimer Covered Bridge. Wild River's Nut Brown is added to the cheese during its make and adds its own unique character to the final product. Aged 3 months.

Elk Mountian - Elk Mountain is made in the style of the mountain cheeses of Europe. Raw milk, aged for a minimum of 6 months and bathed with ale brewed by Wild River Brewery in neighboring Grants Pass (they also feed their spent brewers grain to their goats) during its time in the aging room. The paste is firm and slightly dry with a slightly nutty flavor and robust presence.

Hillis Peak - Hillis Peak is a washed curd raw milk cheese. It is aged from 6-7 months and has a natural rind that is rubbed with oil and paprika during aging. The paste is semi firm with a balance of acidity and salt along with herbal overtones. The rind is usually not eaten.

Stay tuned to our blog (here comes the shameless plug) thegrocersbag.blogspot.com for more up to date information.

And all are stored and aged in the only climate controlled, walk in cheese closet in the Pacific Northwest. Come in and taste why Salumiere Cesario is THE place to buy cheese in Walla Walla.

    Curd Nerd?
    Tami Book

Are you a curd nerd like the rest of us here? Well if you are, we've got a few MUST SEE items to mention. The first is Culture Magazine. This is an entire magazine dedicated to all things cheesy. The latest issue just came in this week and is the best yet. Many informative articles and recipes, a serious must read for any cheese head you know.

If you have not yet been to Pacific Northwest Cheese Project then here is the link: http://pnwcheese.typepad.com/
Tami Parr has put together an amazing website dedicated to promoting all things cheesy in the PNW. With links to shops (such as ours), producers and cheese events, this is THE BEST website for cheese lovers and even cheese admirers in the Pacific Northwest. And to add to this that she has also written a book about cheese in the PNW, called "Artisan Cheese of The Pacific Northwest". If you love cheese as much as we do, then you need to get a copy now. Who knows, we might even get Tami into the store for a book signing one of these days. Thanks to Tami for all that she has done for cheese lovers living and visiting in the Pacific Northwest.

    Local Businesses Need Your Support
    shop local

We know we have mentioned this in many of our recent newsletters - but it is very important. We understand that times are tough all around and that things will probably get worse before they get better. But, whenever possible, we would like to encourage you to support your local businesses before they are all gone. When you go out to eat, whenever possible, choose a local restaurant rather than a chain. The difference will be quality rather than quantity. Whenever possible, shop at a locally owned small business rather than at a big box store. The difference may only be a dollar, but it is a dollar spent with a neighbor and a member of our community.

Every dollar we spend in a local business is a dollar that strengthens our community and ensures that our neighbors will be here another day to serve the needs of our community. We appreciate all of you who have supported us over the last three years and we thank you. Without our customers we would not be here. We want to be here for many years to come! If you know someone who has never been in the store, bring them down and show them why you shop here and maybe they will become a "regular" just like you.

    Produce
    asparagus

Since opening day April 6, 2006 we have been championing local produce. It is always important to support our local farmers whenever possible as they are the stewards of the land, that land that makes up our community. Whenever local produce is in season we will have some.

Right now we have some amazingly sweet locally grown asparagus. If you find yourself in need and can't make it out to the Farmers Market on the weekend, come see us. We'll have it fresh every day that we are open.

We expect that the first cherries will soon be landing in a few weeks as well as the long awaited stone fruits. We'll keep you posted as things progress.

More local produce will continue to come in over the next few weeks, and as it does we'll be posting it to our blog and updating our Facebook fans.

    Cocktail Parties
    Cocktail

We know that talking about cocktails in the middle of wine country is like talking about the Westminster Dog show at the local rodeo, but sometimes you just need a cocktail. So when the mood strikes know that we will be there to help you stock your home bar with what ever it is that you need (except for the liquor).

We continue to stock some great bitters from Fee Brothers including the Orange and Grapefruit Bitters. We continue to stock Q Tonic and are working to get Fever Tree back in too. We continue to stock Stirrings mixers and rimmers. We are also pleased to announce that we will be stocking an amazing French Vermouth soon. This is not your grandfathers vermouth, this is REALLY good, and Damon doesn't even like Vermouth. How 'bout that?

    Cheese Tools
    boska fondue

For those of you that have been pining away at the loss of your favorite cheese implement, fret no longer. We have just received our re-stock of Boska Holland Cheese Tools. Many of you may have purchased these in our store over the last two years or may have seen them and wondered "Are those any good?" Rest assured, they are and they are the BEST. We have tried them and can confidently say they are superior cheese tools. We have all types of knives and slicers in stock and more are on the way soon, including Fondue Forks!

We also have a plethora of other cheese tools including fondue pots, cheese boards, cheese domes and big knives. If it works with cheese, chances are you can find it here. If we don't have it, we can probably get it. If we can't get it. . .it probably doesn't exist.

    Cheers!

    Did you know?
    Q Tonic

Did you know that Salumiere Cesario has many great items to help you stock your home bar this summer? From Stirrings Mixers and Rimmers to tonics, bitters and even Vermouth! If it is a bit obscure and you can't find it elsewhere, then come see us - we just might have what you are looking for.

And if you love cocktails as much as we do and haven't yet picked up Imbibe magazine then get in here! We have been carrying Imbibe magazine since last year and it is THE magazine for those who love libations of any kind ~ even coffee and grenadine! These guys are serious about drinks and the magazine is a great read.

We'll be adding more bar centric items as the summer progresses and might even be developing a few home grown items too. Check the store often to see what's new. Cheers.
