January Grocery Bag Walla Walla's Gourmet Grocery
January 2009

It is hard to believe that 2008 is behind us and that 2009 stands in front of us ready to be written. The new year always brings the promise of hope and renewal and we think this year that promise is more important than ever. With all of the bad news at the end of 2008, it is time for some good news, some hope, some promise.

We promise that this year we will continue to bring you interesting and exciting products from all over the world and a few more from close to home. We promise that we will continue to strive for the best customer service in the Walla Walla Valley, and in Eastern Washington. We promise that we will continue to be Walla Walla's BEST source for cheese, charcuterie (salumi), and hard to find gourmet food items. And, we will continue to keep the "fussiness" out of food. We all have to eat, why not eat the best that we can. Come check out what's in the bag!

We know that a number of our favorite local restaurants have closed for a little while this month. We wanted to remind you that we are open! We will be keeping our regular hours, so keep us in mind when you are in need of a bite or a drink!

    Pickles
    Pickles

We have talked about our pickles in some of our previous newsletters. But, we need to now tell you that not only can you purchase our own handmade pickles in bulk, you can purchase them right out of our refrigerated case in quart-sized containers. These pickles are flying out the door, if you have not had one yet, you need to ask for a taste.

    Inauguration Parties

If you planning on celebrating one of the most historical inaugurations of our time, we are your one- stop shop for all of your celebratory needs. Whether it be bubbly, beer or snacks, we have everything you need.

Cheese Event Saturday, January 17 @ 12 noon!
    isle of mull cheddar

Yes, we're cutting the cheese again. This time, we'll be breaking into a fabulously aged Isle of Mull Cheddar. This cheese come to us from a farm right out in the Scottish Hebrides, where in the summer the sun hardly sets. In this area, there is not a great abundance of grass and the cows' feed is supplemented by the spent grain (known as draff) from the Tobermory malt whisky distillery. The cheeses can be quite pale, as there is not a lot of color coming through the milk from grass. The texture is much softer than the southern Cheddars and the flavors are wilder. Strong stuff.

We'll open up this wheel on Saturday, January 17th at 12:00 sharp, and will be offering a discounted price on this cheese this day only. If you have not witnessed one of our formal cheese cuttings, this would be a great time to start! We hope to see you at our event.

    Cheers!
