Welcome to the October Grocery Bag! It's
hard to believe that Fall is already here, what
happened to summer? The summer has gone by fast
and as many of you have noticed there have been
many changes at the store. The outdoor patio is up,
but the powers that be in Olympia are delaying it being
as useful as we had hoped. We will open the outdoor
patio area in spring
assuming that our friends in Olympia approve our
liquor license by then, but in the mean time we will be
increasing our indoor seating area so that when you
need that mid afternoon pick-me-up you can sit and
relax in comfort (drink in hand!). We'll be sure to make
a grand announcement when the on-premise license
is approved and our wine and beer will be served by
the glass!
Come check out
what's in the bag this month!

New wines are coming in with great frequency now.
We have several new wines that we are very excited
about:
Walnut City Wine Works Pinot Noir Willamette
Valley -
Great Oregon Pinot Noir that won't hurt your
pocketbook or
your palate!
Rosenblum Petite Sirah Heritage Clones -
This is one of our favorite fall wines year after year.
Rich, fruity with strong tannins and vibrant acidity that
make it a perfect match for Beouf Bourgogne, Classic
American Pot roast or even Braised short
ribs.
Big Basin Syrah Fairview Vineyard Santa Lucia
Highlands - "located between the famed
Rosella's
Vineyard and Garys' Vineyard, the Santa Lucia
Highlands are known for producing wines with
supple, velvety tannins and cool climate spice."
We also have been expanding our selection of
sparkling wines for your fall/harvest parties and pre-
holiday festivities! We will continue to stock sparkling
wines at all price ranges throughout the fall and into
the holiday season.

| Cheese |
 |
We continue to experiment with Neal's Yard
Cheddars. Our latest discovery was with a wheel of
Montgomery Cheddar. Many of you may remember
this
as a rich, tart and flaky cheese that we opened last
year at Feast Walla Walla. Well, our most recent
wheel
is about 180 degrees from that one. Rich and creamy
with less tartness, and is less crumbly than previous
wheels. We just opened this baby up last Saturday
and it is AMAZING! Really - that is what people have
told
us. It is going fast, but we still have 1/2 the wheel left.
We are also in possession of some really
great stilton. If
you have had stilton in the past and were not very
impressed, then you need to come in and try some of
the Colston Bassett Stilton. "Since 1920, there have
only been 4 head cheesemakers at Colston Bassett:
Tom Coy, Ernie Wagstaff, Richard Rowlett and this
year Billy Kevan took over. Their Stilton is more
traditional than any other. The curd is hand-ladled
before draining. This treats the curd more gently and
preserves its structure which results in a luscious,
creamy texture when the cheeses are mature." Come
in and see what makes this cheese so
special.
We also just received in a wheel of Trail Head Tomme
from Mt. Townsend Creamery in Port Townsend, WA.
This is a simple but great cheese that pairs well with
apples and pears and is at home on any cheese plate
this fall. Although it is a simple style of cheese it is
very complex in flavor - a very easy crowd pleaser.

| Charcuterie |
 |
|
Fra'Mani is once again making us very happy. They
have just released their very own pancetta as well as
a pate de campangne and a pork liver mousse. The
two
pate's are really amazing. Many of you have asked
repeatedly if we have pate and our response has
always been "we just haven't found one that is good
enough". Well, now we have. We are really excited
about these and think you will be as well. Come in
this
weekend and we'll give you a taste.

| Beer |
 |
|
We are in the midst of changing our beer selection
from summer brews to the fall harvest beer.
Some of the beer that we are loving right now
are the Ayinger Weisse darker-style German wheat
beer, perfect for late-summer/early-fall consumption.
We also enjoy the Jolly Pumpkin beers such
as the Calabaza Blanca and the Oro de Calabaza -
really, nothing more appropriate for October, right?
|
| Produce |
 |
|
As always, our produce section is ever changing and
abundant with fabulous fresh goods. Right now we
have fresh figs, fresh locally grown arugula and some
amazing locally grown herbs. We are also expecting
Citrus season to start in a few weeks, which means
the return of Meyer lemons, White Grapefruits, Sour
Oranges and hopefully (we're keeping our fingers
crossed) some Yuzu fruit this year!
|
| Pickles! |
 |
|
So, if you haven't heard yet, we are making our own
pickles. And, some of the comments that we are
hearing are "these are the best pickles we have ever
had", "oh my god!" and "mmmmmmmm". We will
continue to make pickles as long as we receive fresh
cucumbers, and we will be putting them up for the
winter months. We are selling them by the pound,
and have even been asked to ship to Seattle (because
they are that good!). We'll give you a taste if you come
in to see us.
|
| What's In Store |
 |
|
We are so excited to have finally replaced and updated
our "menu" board. We now have enough room to list
almost all of the meats that we carry, as well as have
a place to announce our take out specials, upcoming
events, wine and beer by the glass (when its time!)
and more.
As we head into the colder
weather, you will certainly see our house-made soups
back on the shelf, as well as our more hearty menu
items for eating in our store, or taking home with you.
If you ever want to know what we're cooking, just visit
our
blog for daily updates. We'd love to see you on your
lunch break!
And, we announced this in our
August newsletter, and will announce it again here -
the Chocolate covered Almonds are back. They never
last long - but we have them now. So, you know who
you are.... come get 'em before they're gone!

|
We can't believe we are saying it, but it's true. The
holidays are right around the corner. And, for that

have a few sizes in a few price ranges, and filled with
some gourmet goodies from our store they make a
great gift!

about any occasion. And, from bottle thermometers to
