Welcome to the August Grocery Bag! It's
hard to believe that August is already upon us. This
summer has gone by fast and as many of you have
noticed there have been many changes at the store.
Our outdoor seating area has gotten the thumbs up
from the City of Walla Walla and should be completed
soon. Stay tuned to the "Grocers Bag"
(www.thegrocersbag.blogspot.com) for more details
and updates.
As we wind down summer and prepare for harvest
here in grape town, Salumiere Cesario will be your
headquarters for that quick, no-fuss dinner. Whether
its
some cheese, salumi and a baguette for two or pre -
made quick meals, we have what you need.
Come check out
what's in the bag this month!

If you haven't already noticed, we have new wines
coming in regularly now. We have
recently added a beautiful little gem from Portugal. An
Alicante Bouchet Blend that is just stunning ~
Herdade
do Mouchão Dom Rafael 2005.
"Herdade do Mouchão is one of Alentejo's great and
most traditional estates. The 38 hectares of vines are
made up of several vineyards in different areas of the
property. The earliest planting which surround the
beautiful Adega with its white washed walls date back
to 1901 . Here the Alicante Bouschet grape thrives on
the clay soil and intense summer heat. The newer
vineyards, situated on higher and well drained ground,
are planted with other local varieties; Trincadeira,
Aragonês and Castelão. Winemaking has changed
little since the first vintage in 1901; the grapes are
hand picked and brought to the Adega where the
cellar master (third generation and from the same
family dating back over 80 years) receives the grapes.
The grapes are lightly pressed in one of the original
screw presses and then onto one of the nine stone
lagares, here fermentation begins encouraged by
twice daily foot treading, which also aids in colour
extraction. This process usually lasts up for up to a
week, following which the juice is racked off into 2500-
5000 litre vats for secondary fermentation and
maturation. The best of these vats are transferred to
French barriques for 6 months ageing before being
bottled and kept for a couple of years before release,
resulting in a wine as Steven Spurrier puts it so
accurately of 'intense power and innate
elegance".
There are other new wines coming in just about
weekly as we continue to source unique and
high value-low cost wines. We are also adding in
more sparkling wines from around the world at
affordable prices so you can drink bubbles every day!

| Cheese |
 |
|
Mozzarella is the hot ticket right now and we have it in
stock! Our favorite brand has been making some
great cheese this year and we think it might just be the
best we have had from them yet. Come in often as
these go fast.
Also, our friends at Monteillet have been able to get us
some great product
this week. We now have in stock the following
Monteillet Cheeses:
Cardabelle
Provencal
Larzac
Le Roi Noir
and their amazing fresh Chevre!
We have other cheeses that are also wonderful! If you
are looking for a new favorite then try the Comte Fort
Lucotte. This is a wonderful gruyere-style cheese that
has a nutty, beefy flavor that is sure to please any
palate. Our three year old loves it!
We also have a great selection of blues right now, too
many to name you'll just have to come in and
taste 'em.

| Salumi (Cured Meats) |
 |
|
Fra'Mani Sopressata is back in stock and in regular
production again. The new Fra'Mani Chorizo
(Salumetto Picante) is here and even better than the
original. They have kicked up the heat on this and
toned down the cumin. It is really something and
needs to be on your next charcuterie plate.
We have
plenty of Proscuitto now that melons are coming into
season. If you have never tried our Parma and some
locally grown melons then you need to come in now
and get some. This is going to be you new favorite
summer snack.

| Beer |
 |
|
We are now receiving beer regularly also. We have
worked out some fancy logistics that allow us to get
great beer consistently. If there is something that you
have been craving and haven't been able to find come
see us. Chances are that we have it, and if we don't,
we
can get it.
Right now we have two beers from
Jolly
Pumpkin Ales in Michigan that are outstanding - the
Jolly Pumpkin Bam Beer and the Calabaza
Blanca. The Calabaza Blanca is a Belgian style White
or Wit beer. Tart, citrusy and slightly yeasty, very
refreshing on a hot summer night. The Bam Beer is a
farmhouse style ale. Hoppy, tart and again -
refreshing!
Very much like a saison and rated one of the top 25
Beers in America by Men's Journal.

| What's In Store |
 |

Our refrigerated case is filling up!! With more wine
and beer. When you need that bottle chilled and ready
to go come by and pick one up. We have a wide
selection of chilled whites, sparkling and beers to
choose from.
We also have the chocolate almonds from Spain, the
Piedras de Chocolate. As many of you now well know
these little suckers are quite addictive and really
yummy. Come in and get some before they
disappear
again.

Bergevin Lane Gustiamo |
|
|
|
Thursday, August 14th, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
We
still have some spaces left for our special event on
Thursday! Give us a call today to reserve your spot!
We hope you will join us for a wonderful evening of
wine tasting with Bergevin Lane Vineyards. This is a
very special event for us because Bergevin Lane will
be sharing tastes of the very limited 2006 "Princess"
Syrah. 100% of the grapes for the Princess Syrah
come from Francisca's Vineyard in Walla Walla -
which is owned, managed, and farmed by our dear
friends, Cisca Van Heezik and Tim Rogan. We will be
fortunate enough to have Tim and Cisca, as well as
the Bergevin Lane ladies themselves, Amber and
Annette, as our guests for this event to speak about
their labour of love.
In addition to this very special wine, we will be tasting
some other gems from the Bergevin Lane
collection:
2007 Viognier - Columbia Valley
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon - Columbia Valley
2004 Oui Deux Syrah - Wahluke Slope
2005 Oui Deux Syrah - Wahluke Slope
We are very excited about this event - Damon is
planning some very interesting (and fabulous)
pairings for each of these wines. If you are planning to
come, come hungry! We look forward to tasting with
you.
Gustiamo!
