The Government Equalities Office (GEO) has confirmed that the first phase of implementation of the Equality Act 2010 will go ahead to the planned October 2010 timetable.

Government Announces Date to Scrap DRA 
 
The Government has published for consultation its proposals to phase out the Default Retirement Age (DRA) from 6 April 2011. Under the proposals, there would be a transitional period of six months from 6 April 2011 and then the DRA would be abolished in its entirety from 1 October 2011.

I've one employee on suspension and following an investigation into that employee's activities another employee has been implicated. This 2nd employee has been invited to a hearing and has asked whether he can use the suspended employee as his representative. Am I allowed to say no?

Agency Worker Jailed 
 

An agency worker who was overpaid by over £18,000 after submitting forged timesheets was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court.

Holiday Pay 
 
Employers can defeat claims for more than one year's holiday pay from sick employees by making a payment covering their most recent leave year, a tribunal has ruled.

Annual Statistics
 
The Tribunals Service, of which the Employment Tribunals Service forms part, has published its Annual Statistics for 2009/10 (i.e. for the year ending 31 March 2010). This shows that the number of claims in the employment tribunal was 236,100 in 2009/10, representing a dramatic increase of 56% on 2008/09 and putting the numbers of claims at their highest ever levels.
