In Memory & Gratitude: Barbara Vogel
written by Nancy Margulies

Barbara VogelBarbara Dawes Vogel was more than a friend to the World Café, she was an embodiment of its principles. Barbara was open to new ideas, delighted in those of others, shared her home and her enthusiasm with many of us and pursued her diverse interests right up until the end of her eighty-some years. She was an active contributer to the field of Cybernetics and editor of Patterns a print and later on-line journal. A dear friend and colleague, Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

World Cafe Learning Programs In response to the many requests for "training" we receive every month, the World Cafe Community Foundation has begun working with some of our most experienced practitioners to offer public learning programs that will foster a deeper experience and understanding of the World Café process, the World Café design principles, and conversational leadership. We will also be working together to create the "hospitable space" that can support more experienced hosts in significantly deepening their practice.

The first of these Learning Programs will be held in Atlanta, Georgia from October 8th - 10th.

European Salon A group of practitioners from the World Cafe and other "social technologies" in Europe have issued an invitation to the larger European community to join them in a "European Salon" October 16th-19th.

This Salon will utilize an open format, including but not limited to the World Cafe and focus on the topics of Dialogue, Leadership and the New Face of Community. Integrating models of communication beyond the verbal, such as art, dance and meditation, this three-day "at cost" event will be hosted in the simple but beautiful Hotel Marienhof near Vienna, Austria.

See the Salon flyer in the World Cafe community calendar for more details. The event is limited to 40 people, so RSVP early!
