Which Famous Girl Scout Said...

"The thing I received from Girl Scouts more than anything else was a sense of real teamwork and working for the community, helping others, and it was not competitive. I remember working as a group to achieve a goal or to help the community. There was a great sense of accomplishment in that."

The Arlene Johns Memorial Gold Award Scholarship

Established in 2001, this memorial honors Arlene Johns, a long time member of Girl Scouts in the Eugene area. Mrs. Johns served as a troop leader and her troop members were among the first to achieve Girl Scout Gold Awards in Western Rivers Council. She served as a board member, a member of the Silver and Gold Operating Team and also mentored many girls encouraging them to seek the best in themselves. Funding for the scholarship came from the Johns Family, Bud Johnson of Acme Collision and many supporters of Girl Scouts. This year the scholarship will be increased to $1000. Gold Award recipients in Lane County, Deschutes County, Coos County and the town of Harrisburg are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Contact Jan Thompson at (541) 485.5911 X 6315 or jthompson@girlscoutsosw.org for more information.
