Calling All Creative Girl Scouts!

Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington would like your help creating thank you valentines for the people who donate money and services to the council. Without the help of these donors we would not be able to provide many of our services and programs. If your troop is interested in helping, it is easy! Valentines must fit the following criteria:

  • Must be heart shaped or have hearts on them
  • Must fit in a 5x7 envelope
  • Must include "Happy Valentine's Day & thank you for your support!"

Valentines must be mailed to the Portland Service Center by January 31, 2012 and should include a note card with your troop number, leader contact information and number of girls that helped make the valentines. Each troop that sends in valentines will get a special thank you, too!

Send valentines to:

Introducing Sudden Service!

Lamfrom dedicationFor sudden calls for Girl Scout assistance, the Girl Scouts OSW are forming a team that truly knows the meaning of "Be Prepared!"

Are you or your troop interested in doing service for special television, radio and newspaper coverage? Can your troop do a flag ceremony, or does your troop have a special interest? Can you be available on short notice? If the answer is yes, this is your opportunity to sign up to be a sudden service troop or individual!

All girls and adults must be registered members. The type of service will depend on who contacts Girl Scouts OSW in need of assistance. Generally all girls must have a sash or vest. Some activities may require a full uniform (i.e. white shirt and khaki pants). Participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis.

Sign up at girlscoutsosw.org today! Questions? Contact Lauren Shapiro, Council Program and Day Camp Manager, (800) 338-5248 x 6823 or lshapiro@girlscoutsosw.org.

Thinking Day 2012

Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day is part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Global Action Theme (GAT) based on the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to improve the lives of the world's poorest people.

The theme for World Thinking Day 2012 is girls worldwide say "we can save our planet." This theme is based on United Nation's Millennium Development Goal 7 focused on environmental sustainability.

There are lots of ways that Girl Scouts can participate in World Thinking Day activities. Girlscouts.org has a listing of themed activities for each level or your troop could do a Forever Green project.

Around the council there will be service unit and council sponsored events held in celebration of World Thinking Day. Check your local service unit's webpage and see our list of upcoming events for actvities in your area.
