100th Anniversary Update

The 100th Anniversary Steering Committee is excited to announce an additional resource for celebrating the 100th Anniversary.

100 Ways to Celebrate Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary is a list of 100 large and small activities that can be completed by individuals and groups of all sizes. Girls and/or groups are encouraged to make a goal to complete a certain number of activities from the list and when they reach their goal they are eligible to wear the "100 things in the 100th" rocker patch, which will be available for purchase in the council store.

For each article in this newsletter there is a bonus suggestion from the list to help you on your way.
Important Reminder
Peanuts
All event registrations close when capacity is reached or two weeks prior to the event, whichever comes first, unless otherwise stated. No late registrations will be accepted at any time. This is to provide staff and program partners enough time to prepare for the event.

Girl Scouts Want More "Choc A Lot"

More!

This year we are asking girls along with their Girl Scout troops to show the world what a cookie can do! We know that you care about your community and use cookie money to do Take Action projects that have MORE impact than ever before. These are sustainable projects that will benefit the community long after Girl Scout cookie season.

Tell The World About Your Goals!

Create posters to promote your project goals to show customers what a cookie can do. Design a t-shirt to promote troop goals and wear it during booth sales, while delivering cookies or even while taking orders! Use your creativity to come up with your own way to promote your goal.

Share Your Successes!

Does your Girl Scout troop have a "CHOC A Lot" community partner? Are you doing some great projects with them this year? Do you have some great sales strategies to let customers know about the CHOC A Lot program?  We want to hear from you. Tell us what MORE you are doing with cookies!  Share your story at cookies@girlscoutsosw.org and you may see it featured in a future newsletter.

A Big Cookie Goal with a Sweet Reward!
Did you know that our council has a goal of selling 2.012 million boxes of cookies in 2012, and if we reach that goal, the Celebration Concert on August 11, 2012 will be FREE?! Find out how your troop is helping to reach that goal and what you can do to help your troop.
Watch for an announcement after the first of the year about who will be performing.

Bonus 100th Anniversary Activity: #100

Number a bunch of sticky notes 1 to 100, title them with Celebrating 100 Years of Girl Scoutingand write 100 different ways you (or your troop) have a positive impact. Attach a sticky note to each box of cookies you sell so the public can see the great things you're doing!
Resident Camp Preview

2012 Resident Camp BrochureResident camp is an overnight experience lasting from two nights to two weeks. We offer several options for girls to experience resident camp. Individual girl sessions offer girls the opportunity to experience camp on their own or with a buddy and meet girls of similar age and interest. "Core Camp" is a program in which girls get to come to camp with their troop and leaders. "She & Me" and "Me & My Guy" provide a chance for girls to come to camp with a trusted adult. However girls choose to participate, resident camp is about girls discovering a new understanding of themselves and their values, exploring new skills and interests, connecting with new friends, gaining experience in community living, taking action around camp and learning ways to make the world a better place after camp.

Resident camp is the ultimate Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Girls get to make choices as a group about what they want to do, and then do it!  Individual girl sessions often have a theme or focus, such as horseback riding, boating or hiking. Girls select a session based on their interests and spend about two hours each day doing that activity. The balance of the day is spent doing a variety of camp activities such as outdoor skills, arts and crafts, nature activities, swimming, leadership games and challenge activities.

"Core Camp" provides a chance for troops to get outside for a great camping experience with plenty of program and technical support. Troops live together with their leaders and experience camp together and with other troops. Girl/adult pair programs like "She & Me" and "Me & My Guy" are a great way for girls to experience camp for the first time, and for girls and their adults to find out if they are ready for individual girl sessions. Girls get a taste of camp by participating in activities with their adult buddy, while meeting other girls and trying new things. Some girl/adult pairs choose to come year after year to get away and reconnect.

In trying to keep camp affordable to all families but also expressing the true cost of camp, we have adopted tiered pricing this year. All campers will enjoy the same camp experience regardless of which price the family can afford.  Tier One is the actual cost to run our camps. This reflects staffing, program supplies, food and maintenance costs. Tier Two is a partially subsidized cost of camp for families that can pay a little more but not the actual cost of camp. Tier Three is our standard subsidized fee. Families may choose the tier they can afford. Financial assistance is still available for families who need more assistance.

If you loved camp as a kid or never went and wish you had the chance, we offer Women's Own - an all-adult camp experience! This is a great chance to get away for a long weekend and be a happy camper again. Come solo or bring your favorite girl friends to enjoy some grown-up time and the magic of camp. This year Women's Own will take place at Camp Cleawox. All proceeds from this program benefit camperships for 2013.

The 2012 Resident Camp Brochure is currently available online at girlscoutsosw.org/camp/resident_camps.

Copies of the Resident Camp Brochure will be mailed out in early January. Registration is now open!
