As your Girl Scout prepares to deliver Girl Scout cookies and set up booth sales, here are a couple of resources to help you support her goals:

1912 Society

The 1912 Society honors 100 years of Girl Scouting and invests in the future of girls. Consider becoming a member today or honoring a Girl Scout in your life. You might consider joining to honor a Girl Scout leader or volunteer, or to celebrate a milestone in your Girl Scout's life (a special birthday, achieving an award, hitting a cookie goal).

Be one of the first 1,912 to donate $100 now through December 2012, and your name (or the individual/troop you choose to honor) will be permanently recognized on the Wall of Honor.

Leadership & Growth Opps for Girls
Every month, we'll list a new way your girl can benefit from Girl Scouting based on her own interests and goals. This month's is:

Sudden Service

Would your Girl Scout love to be on television, radio or in the newspaper? Does she have a special skill or interest? Can she be available on short notice? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Sudden Service may be just the thing for her!

Girl Scouts OSW often receives short notice requests for girls or Girl Scout troops to perform flag ceremonies, be featured in special television/media opportunities and more! Girls can gain exciting real world experience while representing the Girl Scout community. The Sudden Service team truly knows the meaning of "Be Prepared!"

All girls and adults must be registered members. Service opportunities vary and depend on who contacts Girl Scouts OSW in need of assistance. Generally all girls must have a sash or vest. Some activities may require a full uniform (i.e. white shirt and khaki pants). Participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis.

Nominations for Outstanding Leader Now Available!

Do you think your Girl Scout's leader is really something special? We want to hear about it!

Please nominate her/him for the Outstanding Leader award. You can find details of this recognition by reviewing the nomination form 501. This form can be picked up at your local service center or printed online from the adult recognition page of our website. Nominations are due March 1.

Benefits of Resident Camp

Resident camp registration is now open, and filling up fast! This incredible overnight adventure is available in sessions lasting from two nights to two weeks. Girls can experience camp:

  • As an individual
  • With a buddy
  • With their Girl Scout troop at Core Camp
  • With a special adult at She & Me or Me & My Guy

However girls choose to participate, resident camp offers girls the opportunity to discover a new understanding of themselves and their values, explore new skills and interests, connect with new friends, gain experience in community living, take action around camp, and learn how they can make the world a better place. To learn about details of each session, explore the 2012 Resident Camp Brochure.

New - Tiered Pricing!

In an effort to keep camp affordable to all families while also expressing the true cost of camp, we have adopted tiered pricing. All campers will enjoy the same camp experience regardless of which price the family can afford.

  • Tier 1 is the actual cost to run our camps, and reflects staffing, program supplies, food and maintenance costs.
  • Tier 2 is a partially subsidized cost of camp for families that can pay a little more but not the actual cost of camp.
  • Tier 3 is our standard subsidized fee.

Families may choose the tier they can afford. Financial assistance is still available for families who need it.

Is your Girl Scout ready for camp?

If you're not sure whether your little camper is ready for sleepaway camp, our readiness quizzes can help you decide. There's a quiz for parents & guardians too!

Volunteer Opp: Bring your Passion for Travel to Girl Scouts!

From travel in the Pacific Northwest to Washington D.C. and New York, to Europe, India and Africa, girls can explore the world through Girl Scouts!

In a survey done by Girl Scouts USA, "Volunteers repeatedly said that girls gained much from the cumulative experiences of planning, fundraising, budgeting, researching, traveling, and trying new things." Girls also, "increased their global awareness, gained confidence, became more flexible, were more open-minded and demonstrated independence,"(GSUSA Global Travel Survey, page 2).

Travel programs in GSOSW focus on offering girls opportunities to develop these skills through many different types of travel experiences. Progressive travel education, resources and opportunities are offered throughout the program year all over the council. But we can't do this without the support of our amazing travel volunteers!

You can be a part of the adventure and share your passion for travel by helping girls discover their own passion for travel. From facilitating workshops to chaperoning trips with girls, there are ways you can participate no matter what your level of travel experience is. Whatever type of travel or volunteering roles you are interested in, we have an opportunity for you. We can match you with the right level of time commitment, regional connections and specific volunteer roles you want. You can make a difference in a girl's life through travel!
