Leadership & Growth Opps for Girls
Every month, we'll list a new way your girl can benefit from Girl Scouting based on her own interests and goals. This month's is:

Service Unit Delegate

Girls 14 years of age and older who are members of the Girl Scout Movement and who are currently registered through the council are eligible to be service unit delegates. As a delegate, a girl:

  • has the opportunity to influence the policy-making activities of the council through interactions with the board of directors,
  • gains leadership skills through representing her constituents within her service unit,
  • has the opportunity to take part in discussions that will shape the future direction of the council.

A service unit delegate attends monthly volunteer meetings in order to understand the issues and concerns of the service unit and collect feedback. Delegates also attend the annual meeting in April, as well as any special meetings of the corporation (rare).

This is a wonderful opportunity for a girl to see the democratic process in action and put leadership skills in action.

For information on becoming a service unit delegate, contact your service unit manager. If your service unit has already elected its delegates for this year, consider volunteering to be an alternate. And remember, there's always next year!

Girl Scout Cookies Mean MORE!

A sure sign that the holidays are here...the announcement of Girl Scout Cookie Program dates! This year's cookie theme is...

More!

This is our opportunity to show the world what a cookie can do! Troops are doing great things with their cookie money, but not all of our customers know this. We'd like troops to share all the amazing Take Action projects they are doing that are funded by their cookie sales. Talk with your Girl Scout to learn what her troop is doing and how you can help get the message out.

NEW this year, the "CHOC A Lot" program. Ask who your troop's community partner is and how you can help strengthen that relationship.

Six ways you can help your Girl Scout succeed:

  1. Turn in permission slip on time.
  2. Visit littlebrownie.com and set her up in Cookie Club, a safe website where girls can send emails requesting orders from family and friends. Customers order nearly twice as many cookies online!
  3. Encourage her to set a goal. Guide her to set practical and useful goals about what she wants to learn and earn. Help her track her progress, celebrate success and revise her goal if necessary.
  4. Ask her questions and help her practice her sales message.
  5. Help her take orders or arrange booth site sales at work, places of worship or other locations (check with your troop product manager for more details).
  6. Volunteer to help her troop/group chaperone a booth sale, pick up cookies and more.

Cookie Rallies!

Cookie rallies are a great event to kick off the cookie season and get girls excited about the program and reaching their goals. Make sure to take your girl/s to a service unit rally event. If your area is not organizing one, visit girlscoutsosw.org at the end of November for more information about other rallies happening council-wide and save the date!
