AVSC Adaptive Skiers Seeking Housing for this Winter!

AVSC Adaptive Skier

AVSC's amazing Adaptive skiers are seeking housing for the upcoming winter season.

The Paralympic Development Program (Adaptive) athletes must dedicate an enormous amount of their time to training and racing year-round. Most of our athletes are in their early thirties and with their intense schedule it doesn't leave them time to have a consistent job that could help offset the cost of the ski racing. A majority of them have relocated or will relocate their entire lives to the Roaring Fork Valley in order to pursue their goals of making the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia 2014.

One way to help these athletes achieve their goals is to help them find affordable or free housing. If anyone has a lead that could possibly help these athletes out, please contact Program Director Barrett Stein at (970) 708-5080 or email bstein@teamavsc.org.

Congratulations to Ducky Derby Top Seller Ben Geiser!
Giant Duck AVSC congratulates Freestyle skier Ben Geiser as the top seller of Ducky Derby Ducks for the Club this year.  As the winner of the duck selling competition Ben gets to take home a new pair of sneakers courtesy of Radio Boardshop in Aspen.

All in all, AVSC took in a record $18,000 in proceeds from the fundraiser and we thank all of our terrific sellers and buyers who helped
us reach this goal!
AVSC Says Farewell to Director of Development Suanne Koster
Suanne KosterAfter more than two and a half years as our first-ever Development Director, Suanne Koster is parting ways with AVSC at the end of this month.  Suanne brought an amazing personal touch to our development work.  As an example, when mailing benefits to National Council members, I used to take pride in writing personal notes to each.  Suanne upped the ante by personally delivering the benefits!  With her help, we became independent of expensive consultants for the Securing Our Future campaign; successfully transitioned to a new enrollment/fundraising database; and finally branded our fleet!

She made our office a friendlier place.  Perhaps because she often retreated to an upstairs office for sensitive phone calls, she also did much to bring together office staff and coaches.  Her upbeat attitude and ready willingness to help with whatever needs to be done will be missed.  That upbeat attitude was showcased in her first top-to-bottom on Aspen Mountain.

We thank Suanne for what she has done in her years with AVSC.
