Our weekly "Reading the Bible in Hebrew" meeting will be held this Monday, June 9, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Center for Biblical Hebrew in Phoenix
(Located at 400 West Camelback Rd. #103, Phoenix, AZ)
We are including this section with the mailing to all members of our mailing list even though it represents a local Phoenix Arizona function. We would like to share with you some of the excitement we feel about studying this week's Torah reading and make it easy for you to find it wherever you are. We encourage you to read some of the commentary links and indulge in studying the stories and morals of the Torah for yourself. | |

Matan Torah - We celebrate the Giving of the Torah
 On the morning after the children of Israel left Egypt the count of the OMER started. The next 49 days they spent in the desert moving towards an obscure and average looking mountain: Mount Sinai. This mountain will be identified forever with one of the greatest events in human history: the giving of the Torah, by G-d, to the children of Israel. It took almost 3 million people exactly 7 weeks to get from Egypt to the location of mount Sinai, hence the name of this holiday: "Shavuot" or "weeks"...
