If you live or visit in Phoenix Arizona I would like to personally invite you to join us every Monday night for an enlightening and enjoyable encounter with the Torah and with others like you who love to read and study it.
If you cannot attend this class you can use the links we provide here to read the portion of this week and study some of the commentaries.
It is helpful to know some Hebrew, but you do not need to know any Hebrew to participate! The discussions are conducted in English and every Hebrew word is clearly explained for all to understand.
Everyone is welcome to take part in this discussion group to brings to life the beauty and depth of the original Hebrew text of the Bible.

Reading the Bible in Hebrew

Dear Friends,
Our weekly "Reading the Bible in Hebrew" meeting will be held this Monday, March 24 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Center for Biblical Hebrew in Phoenix
(Located at 400 West Camelback Rd. #103, Phoenix, AZ)
Be prepared to join us this Monday night in the traditional reading of Megillat Purim, the story of Esther and how the Jews were saved from sure destruction at the hands of evil Haman.
We are including this section with the mailing to all members of our mailing list even though it represents a local Phoenix Arizona function. We would like to share with you some of the excitement we feel about studying this week's Torah reading and make it easy for you to find it wherever you are. We encourage you to read some of the commentary links and indulge in studying the stories and morals of the Torah for yourself. |
Purim: the whole megillah ...
The Book of
Esther is unusual in one respect. It is
the only one of 24 books
of the Hebrew
Bible that does not contain the name of God in it. This has been traditionally explained as connected to the idea of
"hester panim," the
hidden face of God. That is to say, God
plays a crucial role in the Purim story, but it is behind the scene.
