Do you have the Right People on the Bus?

I just read Good to Great by Jim Collins for the second time. What really struck me the second time around was making sure that you have the right people on the bus. All too often, I get calls to provide executive coaching for people that probably were not the right people to have on the bus in the first place. Collins suggests that you ask yourself two key questions to determine if you have the right people on your bus. The questions are-  · Would I hire them again?
 · If the person came to tell you that he or she is leaving, would you be disappointed OR relieved?

Keep the questions in mind during your next performance discussion.
Greetings!

Summer is in full swing and like most people I have lots of stuff going on right now. Last week, I was so disorganized that I left my power chord at a conference in Chicago (this is the third time that I had to purchase a replacement power chord from Dell). It really was a minor inconvenience when I think about the folks (my friends at Cummins) in the Midwest that have been battling flood waters. On a positive note, I did get to Wrigley Field while I was in Chicago and I arrived home to watch my daughter graduate from HS. We were pleasantly surprised that she received a scholarship from the local Police Department. Every little bit helps when it comes to paying for college! I hope you have a wonderful, stress free, well organized summer!
Are We Having Fun Yet?
A few months ago, I wrote an article about creating a motivating work environment. I received such favorable response to the article that I decided to write a book which will be titled - Are We Having Fun Yet? 101 Ways to Create a Motivating Work Environment. I already have the cover of the book completed. If you would like your company or organization featured in the book, send me an email and let me know what exactly you do at work that creates a motivating environment for your employees. I expect the book to be available in September. Unfortunately, I'm not too busy speaking during the summer so I have a lot of time to write.
Developing Process Excellence Leaders is now available as an ebook through iSixSigma. Of course if you want a real book, not an ebook, you can order it directly from me at http://reginaclark.net/images/processdevelopbook.pdf
