Greetings!
This is a busy time of year for many people,
especially those in the service industry. With so many
people out shopping for the perfect gift, there are
great examples of customer service at it's best and
at
it's worst. If you would like to share your
experiences, please e-mail them to me. I will be
sending out a service newsletter in January. Have a
wonderful, peaceful holiday!
| Holiday Gift Giving |
 |
|
My father was a teacher. Every year he would come
home from school prior to Christmas vacation with a
shopping bag full of cologne, soap on a rope, ties and
other holiday gifts that he eventually tossed in the
trash. I guess every mother thought that the teacher
should receive a holiday gift as a token of
appreciation. Gift giving can be very tricky. Do you
plan to give your boss a gift? Most etiquette experts
recommend that it is not necessary to give a gift to
your boss. If you give anything at all, opt for a
holiday card with a handwritten message that's
sincere but professional. An exception to this rule
would be participation in a group gift exchange like a
Secret Santa. Whatever you decide to do, don't
make the gift too personal. People can get the wrong
impression.

| Giving Fabulous Feedback |
 |
|
When was the last time that you thanked a co-
worker
or team mate for doing a terrific job? Unfortunately,
many of us point out negative
behaviors and mistakes more often than praise
positive
behaviors. When giving feedback there are five steps
to follow:
Determine Who should receive it.
Determine What needs to be heard.
Decide Where it can be given.
Decide When it is appropriate.(probably not
during the holiday party!)
And finally, How to give the feedback using
specific examples. When giving feedback always
avoid placing blame. Instead focus on solving
problems.
Giving appropriate feedback often can motivate your
employees to do an even better job!
