Work/Life Tip - Prioritize your holiday to do list

Interviewing Tips

Business owners and managers are often expected to conduct employment interviews. Being able to hire the right person for the job is critical to the success of any business. Here are a few basic interviewing tips. *Look for patterns of past behavior. The most effective way to predict someone's future behavior is to look at his or her history. * Don't lead the candidate. If you offer too many details about the position too quickly in the interview, the candidate will be able to tailor his or her responses to suit the description--leaving you without the information you need to decide if the person is really right for the job. * Address specific job needs. Let the candidate apply his or her past experience to the requirements of the job under discussion. For example, "Members of our customer service department sometimes have to deal with angry callers. Can you tell me about a time when you had to speak to an unhappy customer? What did you do?" * Listen. Does the candidate really listen to your questions? Does the person answer directly and clearly, or try to evade the question or change the subject? * Pay attention to the candidate's own questions. What do they tell you about his or her priorities and concerns? * Organize your notes immediately after the interview. If you're talking to several candidates, remembering each one distinctively will be tough without notes.

Greetings!

I just got back from a wonderful trip to Amsterdam. I facilitated a Train the Six Sigma Trainer program with Dan Kutz from SBTI and we had a wonderful week. It always amazes me how much I learn from the participants in the class. The next time that you have the opportunity to travel, make sure you listen more than you speak and you will learn!

  • Customer Service Nightmare
  • A few weeks ago, I purchased a new notebook computer at Circuit City. I have been putting off the purchase for quite awhile. I just hate the thought of spending over $1000.00 on a piece of equipment. I'm not cheap but I can think of a lot of other ways to spend my money, for example, college tuition, daycare, a new driveway, a vacation, etc. Anyway, the purchase is not yet out of the box. I can return it within 15 days if I decide to. I'm thinking of returning the computer because the sales associate didn't say Thank You.This bothers me! I think after spending over $1000.00 I at least deserve a thank you or a Thank you Mrs.Clark, have a great day! What do you think? Send me an e- mail, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  • Work/Life Tip - Prioritize your holiday to do list
  • The holidays are right around the corner and for some working parents this time of year is very stressful. Do yourself a favor. Make a to do list now and leave some things off the list. For example, do you really need to bake cookies when there is a great bakery around the corner? Prioritize your list, you may need the assistance of your spouse to do this, and stick to your priorities.
