Fall Fund Drive:

We are off to such a fantastic start to the Fall Fund Drive this year! Thanks to the many families who have donated we have raised just over $23,000, and are half way to our $45,000 goal! This annual support of the Fall Fund Drive is critical to maintaining Anser's programs in the face of over $120,000 in annual cuts over the past  four years. If you value programs such as CBC, SOS or JH Electives or if you want your child to have opportunities for high quality fieldwork and literature circle books we hope you will support the Fall Fund Drive. We can't do it without you! Congratulations to Georgina and Tami Fife-Brown who won a $25 Rediscovered Bookshop gift certificate and Jill and Dave Wagers who won a $25 Co-Op card in the raffle among donating families!

Thank you to the following families for their donations to the Fall Fund Drive: Shane and Lindsay Riffle, Frank and Kim Stutzman, Danettte and Matt Henderson, Asumendi Farm, Diane Soule and Peter Anderson, Greg Sutton and Hamilton Warren-Sutton, Sal and Heather Banuelos, Pat and Becky Delana, Pam and Wade Howland, Kurt Kallmeyer, Jane and Jim Lomas, Sarah and Steven Olsen-Smith, Kelli and David Stangel, Patrick and Kori Sullivan, Barry and Mindy Sherwood, Meg Roberts and Mark Torf, Paul Bennion and Christina Bruce-Bennion, David Scott, Mary Rogers and  Sean and Lora Breen.

 Parking Changes are coming:

ACHD plans to take out the two parking spaces on street that are directly North of the crosswalk on the West side of 42nd st. The spaces are closer to the crosswalk than is legally allowed. However, in that same area, where it is currently a "No Parking" zone, they will be changing it to a Loading and Unloading zone, where you can park legally for up to 10 minutes. We know these changes to parking can be frustrating, unfortunately they are out of Anser's control. We do hope that drivers will have better visibility as they exit the pickup line due to this change. In the first few days after the changes are implemented we will have a parent volunteer passing out flyers about the change and about our parking and pick up procedures. We thank you in advance for parking legally and for following the procedures that have been put in place to keep our students safe and traffic flowing as smoothly as it can.

 Elective Service Opportunities abound:

See Heather Banuelos if you are interested in helping out at the YMCA Harvest Party or with the Eastman Building Architecture project.

CBC - Module Coordinator Recruitment forms will be coming out for the upcoming Service and Compassion Session and the Diversity and Inclusivity Session.  Be looking for these to come home with your student on Monday!  They will be due back on Wednesday!

SOS sessions will begin the same time as the Service and Compassion Session - be looking for information from Sarah Wilcox regarding SOS. Sarah is in need of parents to help mentor small groups of 6th graders contact her if your interested. swilcox@ansercharterschool.org

 The Anser Library:

Thank-you to everyone who has donated books to the Anser Library we've had a great response so far! We are still in need of more books and are in the process of writing a grant to help with the graphic novels!

Did you know that a library is supposed to have 25 books available PER child and that is just to keep the library sustainable? While our library has some books, we don't have near that many. So in an effort to help increase the library we are asking for donations of gently used, good quality children's books. Maybe your children have moved on from picture books to chapter books or from chapter books into graphic novels. We would love those books your children are no longer interested in reading. There is a box on top of the book drop downstairs for donated books. Please place any books you are willing to part with in this box. These can only be children's books suitable for k-8th grades. Also, please also make sure they are in good shape with no torn pages or seams. If you have any questions contact Bekkie Ritchie @ bekkier@msn.com.

JH Service Opportunity:

Junior High students who are interested in creating and running a "carnival booth" for the YMCA's annual Halloween Carnival on October 26th from 5-8 pm please contact Heather Banuelos. This will require designing, submitting a plan and working to execute this on the final night. Several service hours are possible. We will need a parent who is willing to chaperone the students as well.

Math Night for Parents!

Parents are in for a treat the evening of November 15 beginning at 6:30.  Dr. Jonathan Brendefer, a Boise State University professor, who started the Developing Mathematical Thinking (DMT)  project will be our guest speaker.  The DMT Project was started in 2004. The project orginally partnered with three schools in the Boise, Caldwell, and Emmett communities of southwestern Idaho and is now an excepted way of teaching mathematics in the state of Idaho.  In fact, every teacher who becomes certified in Idaho must take the class for certification.  Dr. Brendefer worked with Anser teachers in 2003-2004 as well, when he had two daughters attending the school.   Dr. Brendefer has conducted research in the area of mathematics for many years and has seen proven results in the improvement in students' mathematical thinking and schools' test scores.  Parents will have an opportunity to listen to Dr. Brendefer, ask questions, then go into their child's classroom to learn about Anser's math program and to experience some of the ways in which we "do math" at Anser.  Plan early...this is something you do not want to miss!
