Registration Information: NEW PROCESS THIS YEAR,PLEASE BE SURE TO READ!

In order to streamline the registration process we will be taking a different approach this year.

For returning families: You will receive a colorful envelope in late July marked "time sensitive materials enclosed" in the mail. The envelope will include all of the registration documents needed. Please fill out the forms, complete the checklist on the cover letter and return the forms with your registration payment.  The forms are due no later than Thursday August 16th. If you are concerned that we may not have the correct mailing address for you please email Abby McLean at amclean@ansercharterschool.org to update your address in our records. If you have an incoming kindergarten or 7th grade student please remember that they will need additional vaccinations and we must have the documentation of those vaccinations with your registration materials.

For new families:

We will send out the same registration packet in a colorful envelope in early August, and will include the  dates and times for in person registration. This will allow us to spend some  extra time with our new families explaining the lunch program, the website, drop off and pick up procedures etc.

Wondering about when we will post class lists if we aren't doing registration at school?  Great question!  We will post the class lists on the "Parent Resource" page of the website on Tuesday August 21st. Remember, that is a password protected page. If you have forgotten your password, use the password reset button and you will be sent a new one.  If you have difficulties with your password you can email Abby McLean amclean@ansercharterschool.orgor Heather Dennis hdennis@ansercharterschool.org and they will be happy to assist you.

Families with Kindergarten and 7th grade students:

Please remember that the immunization requirements for students entering Kindergarten and 7th grade have been changed recently. It is very important that you make an appointment prior to registration in mid August so that you can turn in the forms we are required by law to have for each student at these grades.  If your family does not vaccinate, you can request a waiver form from Abby McLean at amclean@ansercharterschool.org.  A waiver or proof of immunization is required for registration.

Volunteer needs:

We are so excited to report that we will be replacing the carpet in the EC rooms and the Spanish room in mid-july.  We are recruiting volunteers to help with moving furniture out and back in to the rooms and ripping out the existing carpet.  We need students looking for service hours to help with moving lighter items on Monday July 9th at 10:00am. If your 6th-8th grade student would like to help, please email Heather Dennis at hdennis@ansercharterschool.org.  If parents are available to help July 7-12 moving furniture out, July 13-17 with tearing out carpet, or July 21-25 with moving furniture back in please contact Family council President James Cryer who is helping to coordinate volunteers at

cryer.james@gmail.com

Anser Community Parent to Parent Resource Manual

Thank you to our parents who have been sharing resources for our Anser Community Parent to Parent resource manual.  We hope to publish it when school resumes and we cannot do this without your contributions.  If you are familiar with a tutor, physician, social worker or other resource that you know would be good for kids, please take a moment to complete both pages of the survey and share your knowledge.  For more information you can review the attached explanation of the project.  For your convenience - here is the link to the brief survey which you can complete as many times as you like to share all of the great resources you may have.   Click here for the Anser Charter School recommendation form!  Thank you in advance for your kind attention to this message and for your consideration about completing the survey.   Please do not hesitate to contact Lisa Cates at  lcates@ansercharterschool.org  should you have any questions. Thank you for your help to make the Anser "Parent to Parent" Resource Manual become a reality.

Anser "Parent to Parent" Resource Manual

One of the hardest parts of being a parent is knowing whom to trust when it comes to the well being of our families. When you or someone you love needs help, the task of finding the right person can be daunting.

It is not unusual for parents to ask Anser Crewleaders for recommendations but as you know, we are not authorized to do this.  However we know there is a wealth of great experience within our Anser community that could help parents looking for recommendations.  Thus we decided to bring together those who have done the work to find a wonderful resource with those who are seeking recommendations and the idea of the Anser "Parent to Parent" resource manual was born.

The concept is simple and confidential.  We are asking our parent community to let us know of any service providers (counselors, psychologists, pediatricians, service coordination agencies, tutors, etc) whom they would recommend to their own family members.  We will take all of the information we receive and assemble it into a resource manual available to Anser families on the password protected portion of our website.

So now we are asking for parents who have done the work to find a wonderful resource for your own family to please share that information with other families who may be going through similar times.   We are using Survey Monkey and we have tried to keep the process as simple as possible.  It will ask only a few short questions about the resource you think may be helpful to another family.   Please answer the questions as best you can and include any information you would feel would help ease the burden of someone else looking for help.   You can complete the survey as many times as you would like to share as many resources as possible.

Your personal information will remain confidential and not be included in the Anser "Parent to Parent" Resource Manual; however you can offer to further discuss your experience with other parents.  Should you do so, Anser will not give your contact information to other parents but rather, would give to you the name and contact information of the person who wants to speak with you and then you can determine if you want to call them or not to share your feedback about that resource.

Parenting is never easy, and looking for help when we need it can make us feel more alone than ever. Please help remind each other that we are not alone, we are a community and we are stronger together.

Here is a link to our survey - thank you in advance for your kind attention to this message and for your consideration about completing the survey.

ECS looking for a door, can you help?

We are making some facility changes to better support students in our Exceptional Child Services Classrooms.  Is there anyone in our Anser Community who might be able to cut into a wall (no known electrical involved or anticipated) and install a door between two classrooms?  We would like to have this done before the middle of August.  Also, we are looking for a pre-hung door in a frame - does anyone have one in their garage that might fit the bill?  If you can help please e-mail Lisa Cates at lcates@ansercharterschool.org  Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.

Math Ideas!

We have received several inquiries from parents about ideas for math support to help students who may want to reinforce their learning over the summer.  In response we have collected the following resources from our fellow Anser Crewleaders:

  1. Apangea.  Every student in the state has access to this program and they can sign up through their parents or through their teacher.  http://www.apangea.com
  2. Khan academy has some great instructional videos but the website can be difficult to navigate when trying to find specific content. http://www.khanacademy.org
  3. Bridge books, which are available at Idaho book and school, are another way for students to keep math skills sharpened in the summer.
  4. The IXL program: http://www.ixl.com
  5. Alex:  They have a full math intervention program as well as a math fact fluency program.  It is fee based ($40.00 per year). www.aleks.com
  6. The illuminations website is sponsored by the National Teachers of Mathematics. If you go to the activities section, it has lots of games and activities.  http://illuminations.nctm.org/

Junior High Fall Adventure

Save the Date: September 17 - 21, 2012

Our fall adventure trip has become a cherished tradition for our students, parents and teachers.  It is time well spent getting to know each other and pushing limits.  We travel to McCall to enjoy camping, hiking and a high ropes course.  Two junior high crews will be gone at a time for 2 ½ days of adventure and team-building.  Parents, we need you!!!  Please consider being a driver-chaperone for this experience.  If you can volunteer, please contact Kelly McLeod at kmcleod@ansercharterschool.org.

Look for more details as we get closer to the start of school.

ISAT ASSESSMENTS (for grades 3-8) :

They will be ready for families to pick up June 7 and 8 in the main office.  If you are unable to pick them up at this time, they will be available whenever the main office is open in June and August.  We apologize for not having them ready for families at Student-Led Conferences but they will not be released from the state until today and we need time to get them copied and placed in envelopes.
