FallFundDriveFall Fund Drive

We are in the final stretch of the Fall Fund Drive and we need your help to succeed!  So far we have raised $30,200 of our $40,000 goal and we are running out of time.December 8th (next Wednesday) is the last day to turn in your donation or pledge form to be eligible to be entered into the drawing or the iPad,  which will be raffled off at the December 14th Whole School Community. The more you donate, the greater your chances. $50 = 1 chance, $100 = 3 chances $250 = 10 chances, $500 = 25 chances, $1000 = 100 chances!  And December 31st is the deadline to donate and receive the great tax credits available for donations to educational organizations in 2011. So don't delay!  Together We Can Make A Difference by donating or pledging to meet the needs of all of our Anser students. Thank you to the following families for their donations this week: Scott and Catrina Thomas, Joe and Leta Wood, Keith Kanet and Sonja Nehr-Kanet, Kori and Patrick Sullivan, Jim and Nicole Pape, David and Kelli Stangel, Jim and Julie Romano and Jim and Lynn Johnston!

ImportantDetailsImportant Details about the new Anser website:

Did you check out Anser's new website?

The new Anser website launched as scheduled on 11/18.  Have you had a chance to check it out?  Many thanks to Jen Zelinsky, Rob and Melinda Neely and web designer Jedsplit Designfor helping Anser create a great new tool for our families and prospective families.  Yesterday you should have received an email  from an email address:  wordpress@ansercharterschool.org  In that email are the user name and password for your family to use on the Anser website. Why do you need a password? Because our new website will include pages for each crew to post newsletters, homework assignments, pictures  as well as resources for parents like the Anser directory.  In order to  see these pages you will need to log in. So check your email ( and junk email folder) to find your password and activate it today!

Anser Board Meeting

This month's meeting will occur one week earlier than usual, on December 13th due to the Winter Break. As is the case with every Anser Board meeting, this meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend. The meetings start at 6:00pm and are held in the Junior High Science Room.

From Suzanne

Spatial Reasoning and the Mathematical Mind  Most people believe that mathematics is numbers, symbols, and notations. In this podcast, Brendefur explains that mathematics is also about spatial reasoning - the ability to visually manipulate stimuli, to break apart and put together 2-D and 3-D shapes, to take these ideas and twist and turn them or to not be confused when an object's orientation changes. This ability is one of the best predictors of later success in mathematics, and can be learned through a variety of different methods and practices. It also helps people develop fluency with operations in arithmetic and strengthens measurement concepts.  Please link to the podcast  http://beyondtheblue.boisestate.edu/blog/2011/11/28/jonathan-brendefur/ to find out more.  The podcast is presented by Dr. Jonathan Brendefur, a Boise State Math Instructor and Coordinator of the Mathematical Thinking Institute.  Dr. Brendefur has conducted math research throughout the state and nation and was a former Anser parent.  Happy listening!

Attention all Junior High Families

It has been brought to our attention that some JH students are leaving campus after school to go buy snacks at the station on the corner, then returning to campus for afterschool activities.  Students are  not allowed to leave campus after school until parents are here to pick them up.  If a student leaves campus for such purposes, parents will be called to pick him/her up from any after school activities they are participating in and will not be invited to participate in the activity. Teachers have spoken to students about this, so they have been informed.  Please speak with your child regarding these expectations as well.  Thank you.

Jr. High Ski Team

Although there may not be much snow yet at Bogus, it is time to start thinking about Anser Ski Team. We are lucky this year to have Anser parent, Burr Boyington as coach and Bryan Dingel as his assistant in forming an Anser Ski Team.  There was an  informational meeting about Ski Team today  during the Junior High lunch period for all students interested in ski team. But if your student missed the meeting, don't worry, you can just contact Burr directly for more information.

Ski team through the Boise School District is a great, low pressure way for your student to be involved in ski racing.  There are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels for Downhill, Freestyle and Snowboarding. Please encourage your student to attend the lunch time meeting on Thursday if they would be interested in being part of the team.  The cost for participation will be $10-$15 depending on the number of students who sign up. If you would like more information about ski team, please contact Burr at 303-908-0420 or 1013@mindspring.com

In case the forms for participation don't get home to you they are also available on the "Forms" page of the new Anser website at http://www.ansercharterschool.org/admissions-administration/forms/

TALENT WEDNESDAY- January 4, 2012

TALENT WEDNESDAY!  The first Talent Wednesday of this school year will be held on January 4, 2012.  Please note this is the first Wednesday after Winter Break.  This should give your child some nice practice time over the break.  The letter for Talent Wednesday that explains the process and the application form can be found on the new and improved Anser Website www.ansercharterschool.org  Students may also pick up an application form in the main office.  In order for a student to participate, all the criteria must be followed so PLEASE take the time to read the letter and discuss it with your child/ren.  We look forward to some great performances.  Thank you!

Youth Council Food Drive & Fun Days
Youth Council is doing a food drive!  Please join us in helping to feed the hungry in Idaho.  Each class has a bin for donations and the class with the most food points wins.  Each food item has a point value, so your child may be asking for certain items.  We encouraged the students to only bring what works for their family, and that giving is what counts the most.  Please see the Idaho Food Bank website for needed items http://www.idahofoodbank.org/?page=food-drives

Anser Exceptional Child Services Crew Leader Student Support Specialist Sidra Rane

My day consists of supporting all students, any and all students with most anything and everything. When an incident happens on the playground or in the classroom, I sometimes am asked to come into play and support a mediation process. I help the Exceptional Child Services Crew with behavior assessments, behavior plans, observations, and academic skills.  I support students in an Upper Childhood (UC) math class as well as facilitate another UC reading and writing group and a UC spelling group.    I also provide academic support in Middle Childhood and Junior High.  I co-teach Upper Childhood and Junior High Study skills and Homework Club.   I received my undergrad degree at Boise State, and am currently completing my Master's in Counseling at Northwest Nazarene University. I hope to continue working with ANSER students and families for many years. I have three children that are 8, 6 and 4 years old.  My passion is advocating for students and helping them learn how to advocate for themselves.

Word-of-the-WeekWord-of-the-Week
Since so many families are new to Anser, Family Council will feature a regular Word-of-the-Week in the Flight Plan.  We hope this helps folks become more familiar with all of the acronyms, design principles, and lingo of our school.

Here's the word of the week:  CBC and Service Celebrations:

At the end of each session of CBC the work of the students is celebrated. Following the Visual Arts Session and Performing Arts Session, an all school, evening celebration is held to showcase the work of the students during that session. There is a performance night and an art show.

Spring Auction..... last chance!

One last chance for your children to take part in Christmas revelries organized and hosted by Chris Wylie and Helene Belanger for EC and MC students.

The children are to be dropped off at 2pm at our house so we can attend an ice skating show downtown (transportation and cost of admission is included in the price).  Once we return, the children will be served dinner and entertained with all things Christmassy - decorating, eatery, caroling and when they can't take any more fun, a nice Christmas movie for them to wind down and be ready for pick up around 10pm.

The event will take place on Saturday December, 10th. at our home - 2724 N. 31st, towards Hill Road.  The cost per child is 40.00 and all proceeds to benefit Anser!  Only a couple spots are still open, so move on this quick if interested. Contact Helene at 344-7964 or helene@interzoic.com.
