Hidden Dangers That Reduce Forklift Capacity
Your warehouse or factory moves quickly and things can become dangerous very quickly. There are obvious things that can reduce the ability of your lift trucks to safely lift products like:
- Adding or changing forklift attachments
- Changing your Load Center (LC) or adding fork extensions
- Changing your types of forks
There are other things you want to keep in mind that can create a very dangerous situation with regards to capacity and that includes: - Worn forks or chains (a 10% wear in your forks reduces the capacity by 20%!)
- Changing tire types or sizes (your lift truck is rated using factory OEM tires. Changing types or sizes of tires, even a small change, can effect safe lifting capacity)
- Handling odd shaped loads (if palletized materials are odd shaped or you are lifting products with uneven weight distribution, be sure the heaviest part of the load is closest to the backrest
