Hello!

As the New Year approaches it is timely for all to look back and see where we were a year ago and where we want to be a year from now.

One year ago Democrats across the Country were still licking the wounds from the 2010 mid-term elections. We experienced unexpectedly large losses including losing control of the House to Tea Party Republicans and losing far too many Senate seats. We were swept in Indian River County.

The 2010 mid -term election results reflected in part a natural cycle for midterm elections but it came as a surprise nonetheless. The magnitude of the losses was totally unexpected.

Some DEC members resigned in frustration. The pervasive sense of hopelessness was national with Democrats. It was particularly hard to accept after the joy filled euphoria of November 2008 that inspired such hope and promise.

We are back on our feet now. There is new leadership at the State level and we have new life in Indian River County. We have several dynamic new DEC members. We have great new office space and we are beginning to build a treasury to enable us be more prominent and to better support Democrats. Already we have two Democrats vying against one another to take a crack at the birther Bill Posey. Shannon Roberts and David Gunter will face off in a primary.

We expect we will re-elect the President and improve in both the Senate and the House possibly regaining control. To achieve these goals we need the same loyal commitment we had from many of you in 2008. Together we can re-new the quest for change all true Democrats can believe in.

I wish you all a fantastic new year. Together we can change things again in November 2012!

Chair, Indian River Democratic Executive Committee
