2012 TMA Europe Post Conference Review
What a time to have a conference about turnaround.
On the day we got to Madrid, Spain's Central Bank had just appealed for international help. On the following day, during the conference itself, the Eurozone delivered its 100 billion euro bail out for the country's banks, much to the relief of the markets.
Just up the road from the Bank of Spain, in one of Madrid's most affluent areas, TMA Europe's conference carried on with very little evidence around it of the country's economic crisis. Over a million empty unsold properties and nearly 50 per cent youth unemployment were not visible from the air conditioned salons of the Hotel Hesperia where we met. But the concern on the faces of the Spanish delegates, for instance, was real enough.

....and the winners are....
An innovation at the annual TMA Europe conference this year held in Madrid was the introduction of two awards for European turnaround of the year; one for small companies with revenues under €100 million and one for large companies with revenues above t his amount.
The large company award was won for the turnaround and restructuring of the Kord Group led by Petr Smutny of PwC in Prague.
The small company award went to Adrian Doble and team of FRP Advisory for the turnaround of Ferromatik Milacron Maschinenbau GmbH.

Revision of the European Insolvency Regulation Proposals by INSOL EUROPE
Today INSOL Europe has launched its proposal for revision of the European Insolvency Regulation by officially submitting it to the Commission of the European Union in Brussels.
The European Insolvency Regulation provides for the pan-European effect of liquidation and reorganisation proceedings opened in a member state of the European Union. By virtue of this important regulation trustees appointed in a member state can exercise their powers in other member states and judgments relating to insolvency proceedings are given effect to in other member states. The regulation furthermore inter alia contains rules on coordination between multiple proceedings and the law applicable to insolvency issues such as dismissal of employees.
