A few weeks ago, we arrived a little early for a distribution at Roy Elementary School in North Lake, so the principal asked us to pull around back and wait until recess was over. You may remember hearing about Roy School -- we distributed our 500,000th book here just six months ago. This would be our 4th time distributing books at Roy over the past two years.

As soon as kids on the playground saw the Bernie's Book Bank truck, they dropped the basketballs, jump ropes and kickballs and came running over to the fence. "It was amazing," said Executive Director Brian Floriani. "To see the excitement on their faces about getting books, you'd think we were handing out ice cream." 

Don't doubt for a second that these kids don't LOVE the books we're giving them. They do. And please know that your support is allowing us to serve them and thousands of other children just like them. 

 

Bernie's Book Bank facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children living throughout Chicagoland.

 

We plan to be distributing 1 MILLION books per year by 2013.

Jill Rosenberg

Jill Rosenberg joins us as Director of

Communications and Marketing. Jill first became involved with Bernie's Book Bank after reading an article about the organization's work in a local magazine. She organized a book drive through the service club of her children's school and was amazed to see how excited the students were to participate.

 

As Director of Communications and Marketing, Jill will continue to increase awareness and expand the mission of Bernie's Book Bank, resulting in more books donated, more volunteers engaged and more money raised. Jill brings 20+ years of community service and marketing experience to Bernie's Book Bank, having worked in consumer travel, publishing and affinity marketing industries. 

 

We're thrilled to have Jill and Moira on the Bernie's Book Bank team, helping us continue to grow to serve every at-risk child in Chicago and beyond!
