The inaugural Rock the Bank! benefit was a great success!

More than 260 friends, volunteers and supporters joined us on a beautiful summer evening to support BBB's mission of building book ownership among Chicagoland's at-risk children.

In all, we raised about $20,000, which will allow us to collect, process and distribute 120,000 more books for at-risk children in Chicago and its suburbs.

Can You Give Up One Cup?
coffee
We apparently love coffee. Americans buy gourmet coffees an average of six times per month and spend an average of $6 per visit.

For $6, Bernie's Book Bank can deliver 36 books to six children who have none of their own.

Can you give up one cup per month for a really great cause? Click below to donate $6 per month to BBB, and help us deliver more books to more children. Thank you!

Deerfield Page It Forward Is a Labor of Love for the Wilkov Family!

Deerfield residents Willie and Andee Wilkov and their children, Ally and Ryan, are big readers. Like many successful households, their home is filled with books. So when they heard about the Page It Forward book drive being sponsored by Bernie's Book Bank and the United Way of Lake County, they sprang into action.

"For years, we've wanted to collect books for charity but we didn't know how to distribute them," says Andee. "Then we heard about Bernie's Book Bank and Page It Forward, and it was an 'Aha' moment for us."

The Wilkovs and their friends plan to collect 10,000 books over the summer and to deposit those books into Bernie's Book Bank. So far, they've collected nearly 8,000 books. "We have been energized by the amount of support we've gotten from our community in this effort," says Willie Wilkov. "Only three weeks into this, and we've almost reached our goal. I think we'll have to up it!"

To support the Wilkovs and Deerfield Page It Forward, books can be dropped off in the containers on the front door steps at any of the following locations:

830 Deere Park Court, Deerfield

34 Willow Avenue, Deerfield

Deerfield Park District, 836 Jewett Park Drive (Upper Level by Elevator)

Capable Kids, 85 Revere Drive #G, Northbrook

OR email pageitforwarddeerfield@gmail.com to schedule a pick-up

Thank you Ally, Ryan, Willie and Andee!

BBB Volunteer Hours Top 500 in June!

Abbott volunteers 1
In June, BBB volunteers clocked 500 volunteer hours and processed more than 70,000 books! Volunteers come to us from all walks of life: teenagers, retirees, corporate groups, church groups, families, you name it. And we love them all!

Regular volunteer hours are posted on our website www.berniesbookbank.orgPlease let us know you're coming by sending an email to info@berniesbookbank.org. If you have a large group, we'll be happy to set up a special time just for you.

Check out this short video about volunteering at BBB, A Look Inside Bernie's Book Bank
I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank three very special groups of people to BBB: our book donors, our volunteers and our funders.

Our job is to take donated children's books, process them and efficiently distribute them to thousands of at-risk children. However, this would not be possible without the thousands of book donors who have answered our call, taken action, and spent much valuable time gathering their household children's books to donate to BBB. Thank you book donors!

The overall success of our processing and distribution operation relies on the hard work and dedication of hundreds of volunteers of all ages. We are in perpetual amazement by their generous gift of time. Thank you volunteers!

Lastly, we are so very grateful for the increasing financial support of so many who facilitate the growth of our program while insuring its long-term sustainability.Thank you funders!

TOGETHER, we are impacting the lives of thousands of area children as we continue to connect children needing books with books needing children!

Sincerely,
