Here in Chicagoland, we are having a record breaking hot and dry summer! Our air conditioners have been running overtime, but we can still get outside and stay cool by heading to the shore and enjoying Lake Michigan! Lake Michigan proves to be a huge draw to the Midwest in the summer, providing plenty of wonderful destinations up and down its coasts! We are highlighting one of those lakeside destinations, Door County, Wisconsin this month. This area on the Wisconsin peninsula is situated five to six hours north of Chicago, and is surrounded by the lake on the east, and Green Bay on the west.  Read about the adventures to be had at this quaint getaway in our blog, below.

We also bring to you the accessibility guide to Orange County, California. We had help putting together this guide from a TravelinWheels ambassador, and would like to say, thank you!  Out next is our accessibility guide to San Diego, California! Stay tuned!

Door County

Chicagoans consider Door County, Wisconsin their "Cape Cod", an idyllic setting surrounded by water, with lighthouses, and quaint little towns, each with its own personality. Door County is about five to six hours north of Chicago, driving up the coast of Lake Michigan into the Wisconsin's peninsula, surrounded by Lake Michigan on the east, and Green Bay on the west. It is a wonderful destination for couples, families, or retirees, a place where McDonald's doesn't exist; replaced with family owned dining and shops, incredible sunsets, and the world famous, fish boil. More than that, it's a beautiful place, that with a little planning, can be a wonderful accessible getaway.

Rome and Italy Accessible Tours Make Trekking the Ruins Possible For All

By: Stefano Sghinolfi

Rome is known as the largest open museum in the world, one of the most visited cities and one of the must-see wonders. But it isn't what one would consider accessible to wheelchairs, at least not all of it. Visitors in wheelchairs can enjoy Rome only with some private facilities, because not all of the public transportation is accessible (buses without ramps, inaccessible metro stations, etc.).
