The TravelinWheels team just returned from a visit to California! The first stop was in Los Angeles to check out all the inventions and gadgets at the Abilities Expo! You can read about our favorite items from the expo in the blog "Innovations in Accessibility at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo". After the Expo, we traveled south to San Diego! We will publish a full accessibility guide to San Diego in the coming months, but in the meantime, you can read about our visit in our blog below! After an invigorating weekend at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo, the TravelinWheels team headed south to San Diego for an accessibility site visit. San Diego has always been on my bucket list of places to visit. Dr. Wittenberg said it best when he told his intern, "See, now here is an individual who continues to live his life despite his handicap."
The above doctor is my husband's pain management doctor. Three years ago, my husband, Matt, suffered from a bowel perforation and almost died. He had multiple systems fail, was on life support for a few weeks, and was septic. It's a miracle he survived. A purpose of one of the many drugs was to pull blood from the extremities to the torso and thus vital organs. In doing so, however, his toes literally died, and I consulted with an orthopedic surgeon about what to do. Amputation was the only answer.
