The TravelinWheels team just returned from a visit to California! The first stop was in Los Angeles to check out all the inventions and gadgets at the Abilities Expo! After an invigorating weekend at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo, the TravelinWheels team headed south to San Diego for an accessibility site visit. Dr. Wittenberg said it best when he told his intern, "See, now here is an individual who continues to live his life despite his handicap."
The above doctor is my husband's pain management doctor. Three years ago, my husband, Matt, suffered from a bowel perforation and almost died. He had multiple systems fail, was on life support for a few weeks, and was septic. It's a miracle he survived. A purpose of one of the many drugs was to pull blood from the extremities to the torso and thus vital organs. In doing so, however, his toes literally died, and I consulted with an orthopedic surgeon about what to do. Amputation was the only answer.
