Dallas in December!

Dallas, Texas
|
Happy Holidays! Looking back at this year, TravelinWheels has come a long way. We launched in May of this year, and have since traveled to multiple destinations, added tons of information into our city accessibility guides, added a number of stories, tips, and blogs, and updated several pages on the site! We hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as we have!
We highlight Dallas, Texas this month! Downtown Dallas is fairly easy to navigate, and is pretty manageable in terms access to sidewalks, curb cuts, and public transportation. Beware of the heavy traffic and scorching temperatures in the summertime! Read more about our travels in the Dallas blog and by viewing our Dallas accessibility guide.
As we head into the New Year, we hope to continue to be, or to become your go-to guide for traveling with special needs!
Best to you and yours for 2012!

Our Favorite Things -- San Jose Abilities Expo As many of you know from our Facebook page, I love finding new and interesting gadgets and services that will make life a bit easier for people with disabilities and their families. I wrote about my favorite things at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo in May. If you didn't get a chance to read it, you can click here. This was the first year of the San Jose Abilities Expo, and I made my plans to exhibit, expecting the same vendors that I had seen not only in L.A., but New York and Chicago over the summer. Well, I was wrong! There were several organizations and companies in the Silicon Valley with interesting inventions and valuable services that made me realize that I needed to have a second "Favorite Things" blog of the year. Again, I am not Oprah, so I cannot offer any of these to you for free to try, but I can tell you, that they are worth a look. ...more |

Open Doors Organization
opendoorsnfp.org
The Open Doors Organization (ODO) was founded in 2000 for the purpose of creating a society in which all persons with disabilities have the same consumer opportunities as those without. They aspire to teach businesses how to succeed in the disability market, while simultaneously empowering the disability community. In America today, marketing toward people with disabilities is hindered by myths and misconceptions.
Through comprehensive research, training, and guidance in marketing strategies and ADA compliance, ODO gives large corporations and small businesses, alike, the tools they need to reach and serve the disability market. Furthermore, ODO is committed to providing job placement, educational seminars and diversity programs that improve the quality of life for the individual with a disability while opening doors to businesses and society. Through social action and research, ODO seeks to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. |
