Greetings!

As the dog days of summer approach, don't let the quiet on campus fool you - several of our students, faculty and alumni will be fulfilling scholarships and fellowships, conducting research, presenting at conferences, volunteering or traveling abroad. Stay tuned for our summer issues which will highlight some of their individual projects.

Congratulations, 2012 Graduates!

Sailboats, sunshine and surf served as the backdrop to Eckerd College's 49th Commencement held May 20, 2012, on the South Beach field of campus.

More than 540 graduates received encouraging words throughout the morning, including those by Eckerd College President Dr. Donald R. Eastman III, "At the end of this ceremony, you will march off to show the world that Eckerd College changes lives, and Eckerd College graduates change the world."

Celebrating the Life of Clark Bouwman, Founding Faculty Member of FPC/Eckerd College
     Clark Bouwman
This past February, we lost the last remaining
founding faculty member to finish his career at the College. Dr. Clark H. Bouwman, founding faculty member of Florida Presbyterian - now Eckerd - College, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the age of 92. He served as professor and dean at Florida Presbyterian College from its first classes in 1960 until his retirement 23 years later. He also served as dean of academic services and director of international education.

A memorial service celebrating Dr. Bouwman's life will be held at Lewis House on the Eckerd College campus on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. Informal attire is suggested. The family invites those who remember him to send a picture of themselves with Dr. Bouwman and a descriptive word or memory for a display wall. Photos and comments can be emailed to [email protected].
