Greetings!

Did you know that each week, more than 100 meetings, events and activities happen on the Eckerd College campus? If the public events calendar is an indicator, one can only imagine what the Campus Activities office has planned for our students. This is your chance to  see that play, hear that lecture, speak out at that discussion, enjoy that concert or take in that exhibit - all before the campus goes quiet for the summer.

Please visit the Inside Eckerd archives page to read past issues or invite a friend to join the mailing list. Help us build our Inside Eckerd network by sharing this email with your friends and family 'outside Eckerd'. Enjoy!

Celebrating the Life of Nathan Mosby

Eckerd College celebrates the life of student Nathan Mosby, who died tragically in a single-car accident April 7, 2012, in St. Petersburg. A memorial service celebrating Nathan's life will be held on Eckerd's Kappa Field on Saturday, April 14, at 3:00 p.m. His parents, as well as others of his family and friends from near and far, will be present to grieve, honor, give thanks, and remember the life of the generous and kind young man who enriched the lives of those in the Eckerd community. Following the service, a reception will be held and all are welcome and encouraged to greet Nate's family and join one another in fellowship.

Faculty Focus: Greg Gerdeman

Greg Gerdeman, assistant professor of biology, was part of a collaborative study revealing that animals that evolved for endurance exercise benefit from endocannabinoids, while animals that did not don't experience the pleasures of a 'runner's high'. Professor Gerdeman and his fellow researchers propose that natural selection used the endocannabinoid system to motivate endurance exercise in humans. The study was published in The Journal of Experimental Biology, a leading journal in comparative animal physiology.

One More Parking Shift on April 15

Admission will be welcoming admitted students and their families at the final Explore Eckerd event on Monday, April 15. In an effort to be as inviting as possible to our visitors, the Cobb lot, Upham grass lot, and the Upham East lot will be reserved parking for those guests. All faculty and staff should park in the North lot, near McArthur Gymnasium, or the West lot, across from Lewis House. Thank you for your cooperation!

April 26 and 27. This is a test. This is only a test.

Eckerd College puts the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff and neighboring community among its highest priorities. With a recent grant from the Department of Homeland Security, the College will be installing an emergency siren. The College will test the siren for the first time on April 26-27. The siren will sound to alert individuals who are outdoors on and near the College campus that they should move indoors to seek shelter from an imminent danger such as a person at large with a weapon on or near campus or a waterspout or tornado warning for our area. Stay tuned for more information...

Attention, Southwest and Airtran Travelers: Eckerd is in Airside C!

The next time you're in the Tampa International Airport, Airside C, keep your eyes peeled for Eckerd's new billboard in the area leading to gates C38-C45. We're not the only ones excited about it -- even the advertising sales rep is using it as an example for potential clients because of the compelling design!
