Greetings!

Eckerd College faculty, staff and students have a great opportunity in the next few weeks to show prospective students and their families what a tremendous academic institution and community we have at Eckerd. The College is hosting Explore Eckerd College March 4-5 and an Open House March 12. Do your part by making the campus beautiful, offering directions, telling everyone what a great place Eckerd is and being your usual friendly and welcoming selves.

For those March events and two more April 1-2 and 15-16, the Cobb lot, Upham grass lot, and the Upham East lot will be reserved parking for guests. All faculty and staff should park in the North lot, near McArthur Gymnasium or the West lot, across from Lewis House.

Please visit the Inside Eckerd archives page to see past issues or invite a friend to join the mailing list. Help us build our Inside Eckerd network by sharing this email with your friends and family 'outside Eckerd'. Enjoy!

February 29: Leap Day

An extra day is added to the month of February every four years to synchronize the calendar year with the seasonal and astronomical year. Why is this necessary? Leap day is a corrective measure taken because the Earth takes slightly more than 365 days to orbit the sun each year.

Cheer on Triton Teams Tonight

Triton Basketball Teams will host the quarterfinals in McArthur Center to begin the Sunshine State Tournament tonight. They're calling for a "White Out," so Triton fans attending the games should wear white to cheer Eckerd onto another victory!

The No. 4-seeded EC women's squad plays host to No. 5 seed Nova Southeastern at 5:30 p.m. before the No. 2-seeded EC men's program looks to take down No. 7 seed Barry University in the nightcap around 7:30 p.m. Help the Tritons defeat the Sharks and Buccaneers with your presence in the stands!

Environmental Film Festival 2012 Award Winners

Professors Catharine Griggs and Nathan Anderson this week announced the winners of the 2012 "Visions of Nature/Voices of Nature" Awards. The awards this year recognize films that were able to educate at the same time as they entertained and surprised audiences, provoking strong reactions and insightful questions.

Audience Choice Award: The City Dark

Special Jury Prize: Green Fire

All films were warmly received by engaged audiences. Guest speakers informed and entertained, and their films exposed us to new ways of thinking about our connection to the natural world.

The Arts at Eckerd

"Between the Lines: Word and Image from Graphicstudio" will open Friday, March 2, in the Armacost Library. The show, featuring works by Lesley Dill, Kiki Smith, Ed Ruscha, Arakawa, and others, will be available for viewing through June 8.

And don't forget to check out the Residential Visual and Interdisciplinary Arts Thesis Exhibitions now through April 27 in Elliott Gallery. Learn more about these events and others here
