Happy New Year to all of our friends in the soccer community!

Every year is a great year for soccer but 2012 has particular promise with EURO 2012 in full swing throughout the month of June, culminating in the final on July 1, and The London Olympics following closely in late July into August. Fantastic!

England will of course participate in the former tournament grouped with France, Sweden and co-host Ukraine. This is by no means an easy group and advancing will be tricky but certainly ball and crossachievable. Lets hope we see an England team with a nice balance between youth and experience. It cannot be 'business as usual' or we can book our plane home early!

I mention the above not just because of my own personal interest but also because I think we as coaches have an obligation to make our players aware of top level soccer. This could be achieved by enthusing them to watch International tournaments like the above or encouraging them to watch a domestic league like The Premiership or MLS on a regular basis.

Having youth players watch professional level games can help them think about how they can improve their own performance. When they observe players that can pass accurately, move the ball quickly and make great off the ball runs they have something to aspire to. Of course only a very small percentage of our youth will make it to the top level but that does not mean they can't all strive to improve their game.

So coaches in addition to encouraging your players to practice in their own time also guide them towards watching a professional game every now and then - you could even buy them a Man UTD scarf to help initiate their enthusiasm - you know it makes sense!

All this talk of summer soccer tournaments and it's still winter. Well at least there is always indoor soccer. We still have space for the next 6 week session of clinics at Highpoint check it out here and ...keep on kicking!

Happy New Year!

I must be doing something right! I have managed to produce a blog and a newsletter in the same month! I'm spoiling you don't expect too much more of this! Please take a few minutes to have a read - hope you like it!

This is a relatively calm time of year as preparations are being made for the upcoming spring season. We are running indoor soccer clinics and some private soccer lessons but for the most part all is quiet on the Western front (as the saying goes).
