Hi, everyone, we are the Jones's and we work for Duval Ranching Company.  We live in northern Nevada at the north end of Ruby Valley in Elko County. The Duval Ranch was established in the late 1800s and was recently honored with the Centennial Award for continuous operation in the same family for over 100 years. Handed down from generation to generation the company is now owned and operated by Don Duval, his wife Grace, and Don's brother Sim Duval with his wife, Dee.  Read More

Cattle nutrition can be basic or complex and the Paine's had made their herd nutrition nearly impossible.  Mrs. Paine had developed multiple rations depending on each animal's behavior and personality.  She had "good cow" feed, "bad cow" feed, and a double secret diet for those on probation.  Working the modest-sized Paine Angus herd required five hours.  Each animal was haltered, called by name, shoved through an alley and piped.  Gone were the days when they actually fit into a chute.  Read More

Well, it looks as if my dreams of a brown winter fell short along with the long-term winter forecasts of a few local weathermen.  It was looking good for a while there.  I guess I did get my brown Christmas.  Heck, I even got to get away after chores on Christmas day to spend some time with my side of the family.  Last year it was about two weeks after the fact that we made it down to my mom's.  Yeah, compared to last year this Old Man hasn't been that bad. Read More
