Adapters and Transformers
On your first trip to Europe the thing that stands out about your hotel room might very well be the wall sockets. They're different. Our US small appliance plugs do not fit into European outlets. The second thing you'll probably notice is that there aren't a lot of them. Power is quite expensive in Europe.
The electrical current in Europe is stronger, 240 volts, and if your appliance isn't made to handle that current, you'll need a transformer to slow the voltage down. For example, a curling iron labeled "120V/240 V AC" indicates that it is able to withstand the stronger current, without a transformer. However, the curling iron plug wouldn't fit into a European wall outlet, until a plastic adapter plug is put in first, to "fit" the plug into the outlet. Many hotels provide transformers and adaptor plugs, but to be on the safe side you may want to bring your own.
Airport Guidelines Please remember TSA (Transportation Security Administration) regulations must be followed at all times. Please refer to their website for additional details: http://www.tsa.gov/ Look for our next newsletter for more valuable travel information.

BEIJING
Mystery and Intrigue...and 40 lucky people will go there in June Featured Destination
As the capitol city of the world's most populace country and once known as Peking,
| | Gateway to the Great Wall |
Beijing is a city of massive proportions with a history of equally huge and amazing offerings of sightseeing and monuments. The Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square and of course, the Great Wall are but a few of the sites which are a must see when you visit Beijing.
Famous as a city of mystery and intrigue, modern-day Beijing is vastly different from the remnants of the centuries old city which can still be found in the Hutong section of the city. The buzzing of motor bikes and bicycles, pedi-cabs (two person taxi powered by a driver using pure man-power) and endless automobile traffic surround you as you work your way through an open air open market full of freshly butchered ducks and pigs or stalls selling a seemingly endless supply of fresh baked cookies, teas and cakes.

St. Augustine, FL American Featured Destination AN AMERICAN JOURNEY-A LOOK INTO OUR HISTORY NOW AND THEN!
St. Augustine, Florida, located on the Atlantic coast in the northern part of the state, is the oldest city in the United States. St. Augustine was founded 42 years before the colonization of Jamestown in 1565 by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles.
St. Augustine offers a number of historical attractions, including the Castillo de San Marcos, which was used by Spanish, British and American forces. The city is also home to the original Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum and the Lightner Museum, which displays 19th century art and objects. The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is a must see, which offers guests a drink from the famed fountain as well as an opportunity to visit a Native Timucuan Indian Village. St. Augustine also offers eco-tours, ghost tours, scenic cruises and a winery. As you can see St. Augustine's mild climate, beaches and historical landmarks, makes it an amazing destination for a study tour to learn about the Florida Spanish Heritage Trail programs offered by EA Tours.

Teacher Spotlight: Dr. Burt Harres
Vice President of Academic Affairs
Pasco-Hernando Community College

What is your favorite destination and why? My favorite city to visit is Paris because it is truly the "City of Light" with incredible museums to visit, fantastic cuisine, and historical sites for educational enrichment.
Of all the services EATours offers, what is it you most like, and why?
They work closely with our community college to determine the educational focus for our tour. As opposed to other tour companies, Euro-American Tours does not entice clients with itineraries including whirlwind tours with brief stops in multiple cities, which ultimately results in many hours wasted on travel days.
What sort of methods do you use for recruiting that other teachers may find helpful to assist in their own recruiting efforts?
Our community college's strategy is to send tour brochures and applications thru bulk mail to our students. We also personally email all students registered in courses with a specific focus on educational elements of the tour.
What destination(s) do you plan on traveling to in the future? In the future I am interested in planning itineraries to Ireland and other parts of the United Kingdom. We are also considering a tour of Munich, Vienna and Salzburg. |
