| This Sunday, May 20
May 20 will be a morning of celebratory song and scripture as we consider Ascension Sunday and the interconnected nature of the world, via the Holy Spirit. The Rev. Dr. Pattie Kitchen will preach. Please click here for this Sunday's Order of Worship.
MUSIC NOTES
When I was growing up in a small home-town church, many Sunday services would include what was called "Special Music." This referred to a hymn the choir would sing alone, or a solo or quartet by members of the church, or perhaps even a song from one who had grown up in the church and returned home to sing in worship once again. Those really in-the-know often referred to this moment of music as simply "The Special." When I think of "The Special" now, I think of a food item not usually found on the menu, or perhaps a regular item offered at a special price. Expanding on this analogy, the Sanctuary Choir will be sharing the chef's special filet mignon this Sunday to mark the end of Wellshire's "winter" schedule before transitioning to a single service for the summer. To observe the Ascension of Jesus Christ forty days after Easter, the choir will sing Orlando Gibbon's double-choir anthem, O Clap Your Hands, one of the very finest settings of this text in existence today. This anthem will be surrounded by Sergei Rachmaninoff's Laud Ye the Name of the Lord for the Introit and Blessed Is the Man for the Offertory, both taken from his stirring All-Night Vigil. Following the Benediction, the choir will respond with another of Alice Parker's arrangements of early-American hymns: Bright Canaan. This festival Sunday will include the voices of 65 singers in the Sanctuary Choir, and it may be one you don't want to miss. Just sayin'. . . this could be special! - Dr. Michael Pohlenz
FAREWELL, SUSAN!
This Sunday, we say farewell to Susan Perkins, Children's Ministry Coordinator, and wish her God's blessings on her journey. Best wishes, Susan, and thank you!
|
| Next Sunday, May 27
PLEASE NOTE that on May 27 we switch to our summer schedule. There will be ONE service at 10:00 am in the sanctuary. Dr. Bell's sermon will be about prayer, based upon Romans 8:22-27, and entitled "Wishing and Hoping (and Praying)."

| This Summer at Wellshire

In April, Session voted to return to ONE WORSHIP SERVICE for the summer. The one service will be at 10:00 am on Sunday morning in the Sanctuary, beginning May 27 and concluding September 2. This decision has several advantages while offering an economy of our resources. Notably, this was "the Wellshire tradition" up until four years ago and will allow the entire worshipping congregation to come together for a period of time. Musically, the service will not be a blended or alternating version of the two services but will seek common ground. Different ensembles and styles of music will be shared, along with an occasional guest choir. The service order will be a standard Presbyterian form, but the worship leaders will engender a bit more of a casual style of worship leadership, appropriate for the summer months in Colorado.
In the middle of the summer, the worship team is preparing to do a seven-week sermon series based on Dr. Seuss books. From June 24-August 5, seven Dr. Seuss books have been selected to be read at the beginning of worship. The theme of the selection will be exposited and applied to our context. It is our belief that, while these beloved books appeal to young people, the themes are universal, applying to us all. We believe this will be educational, inspiration and fun! We are never too old to remember and re-learn what we were taught in kindergarten.
- Seuss-erific Summer Adult Education
Adults have two opportunities to gather to explore the deeper meanings in Dr. Seuss. Join Emily Ferguson and Richard Turner on Sundays at 11:10 am in the adult education suites for "Simply Seuss" (no frills, just good old discussion and fellowship) or Jenni Salisbury on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm in the adult education suites for "Seuss and Sangria" (sip a little Sangria while considering Seuss). Childcare will be provided for the Sunday morning group and by request for the Monday evening group. Please contact Holly Inglis for details.
- Seuss at the Movies
Join your Wellshire friends for three nights of Dr. Seuss movies, starting on Friday, June 22 at 6:30 with The Lorax (the original) and Horton Hears a Who. Popcorn provided!

TREASURES IN HEAVEN
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6: 19-21
What financial habits do you need to forgo in order to have money for things that are more important?
Wellshire's fiscal year end is June 30. Your ability to stay current with your pledge giving is vital to us throughout the year but even more so as we enter the final two months of this fiscal year. The mission and ministry of Wellshire is vital to many - people are helped, care is provided, and lives are transformed - through your wonderful generosity. Thank you very much for your faithfulness.
