Dear Friends,

I want to thank you for a great day this past Sunday. The spirit of
the Lord was upon us and the spirit among the congregation was wonderful. I felt a sense of anticipation for the future. And, in talking to one of our members, he identified a sense of "friendliness" among us. The attendance at the congregational meeting was outstanding. I am eager to see what God will do as we continue to move forward. Many thanks to all who have worked so hard to bring us to this point.

Our theme for the year is Be the Church. One of the most powerful ways of being the church is to live with a future-orientation; looking with anticipation to what God is going to do in our midst. I felt that on Sunday.

Now that the election of the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC)
is accomplished, the work is just beginning. The work for the PNC begins as they get to know one another and learn to function as a team, and as they depend upon God to guide us to our next Pastor.

Our work of the as a church to support the PNC in prayer is also
just beginning. In Exodus 17, the Israelites are in battle with the Amalekites. Moses stands at the top of a hill with his staff raised to the Lord, and we read: Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the sun set. And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the sword.

I want to invite us to use this image in support of the PNC as they labor on our behalf to discern God's will for our next Pastor. Let us keep our arms raised to the Lord. Let us be the Aarons and Hurs to support the PNC in their work. And, let us do so in recognition that it is His power and presence that will bring us to discernment, obedience, fruitfulness and joy.

Thanks Be to God!

Dave Bianchin
