Dear Friends,

One of my observations about Presbyterians through the years is
that we love our Lord, love our church and love other people, but
we don't do a spectacular job in reaching out to bring it all together.
I have always felt that when we have a good event to invite our non-
Christian friends to, we really shine. We tend to have the gift of
hospitality but not the gift of evangelism.

For the next two Sundays, Rev. Dean Kladder and Dr. David Webb are holding a discussion class called The Unexpected Adventure, Part 2. In these two sessions, they will review the things we learned about evangelism in our all-church study. I think the content review will be important, but I really think the "passion-review" for the mandate to reach out to folks for Christ will be extremely valuable. With that in mind, I want to encourage you to invite your friends to two upcoming events.

Rally Day for the 2012-13 program year is August 26. While the emphasis for the day is on welcoming back the church family from summer vacation and into the new program year, it is also a
wonderful time for introducing people to our church and all the
programs we offer. It will be a festive and joyful Sunday, and it would be great to fill the chapel and sanctuary at all three services.

On Labor Day weekend we are planning an Outreach Sunday which will include both hospitality and evangelism emphases. We'll have two services (8:15 and 10am), followed by a picnic/barbeque here at the church. The later service will be geared to visitors and folks not as familiar with the faith. We hope to introduce them to the Lord Jesus Christ and to us. I think it will be a really fun time and your willingness to invite folks to come will be a key element in how effective the outreach element will be.

Our church has much to offer, and I hope we'll take advantage of these opportunities to participate in the work of evangelism as we exercise our gift for hospitality.

Alleluia!
