Dear Friends,
When we present children for infant baptism, there are two sets of promises that are made - parents promise to nurture their children toward faith in Jesus Christ and local congregations do the same. We partner with families in matters of faith and life. With that ministry-dynamic in mind, I'd like to highlight two things this week: Sunday School Teacher Appreciation and the Chancel Choir Tour.
On Sunday, we will recognize and thank the teachers who have ministered in our Children's, Youth and Adult Christian Education programs during the 2011-12 school year. Presbyterians have always centered our common life around the Bible. We also value excellent education in spiritual matters. Jesus taught us to love the Lord our God with our hearts, souls and minds. So in obedience to His call, we teach and we learn. It takes a big effort to teach, at any age-level, and I know that our teachers have given great amounts of their time and effort to teach well. We thank them all for opening up our minds and hearts to the truth of God's Word. Thanks so very much!
The goals of Christian nurture include both knowing God and serving God. The life of discipleship properly includes both, and we recognize that there are a variety of ways to know and serve God. One of the ways is through singing great music that points people to God. One of the blessings of music is that it draws the heart, and the mind, into worship.
Our Chancel Choir Tour begins on Friday, June 8. We have over 40 students going on the trip and numerous adults. In 9 days they will give 10 performances, including our Home Concert here on Sunday, June 17, at 7pm. I have no doubt that this will be a fun time for those who are going. I am also excited about the ministry that God will accomplish through them as they sing and point people to the Lord. Thank you for representing 2PC on this mission trip!
Please remember to thank those who have taught and encouraged you in Jesus Christ, and please remember to pray for all those on the Chancel Choir trip. May God be glorified in our teaching, our learning and our serving.
Alleluia!

Medical supply donations may include antibiotic cream, band-aids of all sizes, aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol and medication for upset stomach. Containers are in the south entry and near Prairie Street entrance through July 1. Thank you for blessing the children!
