Dear Friends,

In the summer of 1997, my family had the privilege of participating
in a Pulpit Exchange. For the entire summer, we lived in a lovely
Scottish village called Kilmacolm. We lived in the manse and each
Sunday I preached at St. Columba Church of Scotland. During that time, Rev. Douglas Cranston and his family lived in our home in
Downers Grove while he preached in our church. It was a wonderful summer, and it began a warm and deep friendship between
Douglas, I and our families. It also connected our congregations as three reciprocal mission trips were shared "across the pond." Let me tell you a little about Douglas.

Rev. CranstonRev. Cranston has been a key leader among evangelical leaders in Scotland for many years. He is a double graduate from Glasgow
University with degrees in Philosophy (MA, Honours) and in Divinity (BD). He has over 25 years experience in pastoral ministry where his key commitment has been to preaching weekly in two parishes. He is a much sought-after conference speaker in Scotland and has preached in pulpits in England, Hungary and Holland. In the United States, he has preached in churches and conferences in Chicago, Washington, Florida and Princeton University. He has also been invited to open the General Assembly of the PCUSA. He served four years as National Convener for Ministry in the Church of Scotland where his passion for the local church and support for ministers was well-known and highly-regarded.

He has recently ended his term as Chairman of Forward Together, a renewal movement within the Church of Scotland. Douglas has been married for over 27 years to Christine, with two grown children: Stephen and Ruth. In the spare time, he is a great cook and a fanatical single-figure golfer and member of the Church of Scotland Golf Team.

Douglas is traveling to the United States next week and I look
forward to introducing him to you. I have invited him to preach at 2PC on May 20. He is a wonderful preacher and a fun guy. You will enjoy his humor and warmth, and you will be blessed by the insights he brings in his preaching. Please make a point of joining us for worship on May 20 and welcoming Douglas to Bloomington.

Alleluia!

Dave Bianchin

Highlights included information about a family movie night activity planned by Adult Christian Education; an update from Elder Jim Lindoerfer about the six women assisted in accordance with Withers Fund Trust terms; a March financial report review by Elder Gary Koppenhaver; and a review of the Let Your Light Shine capital campaign by Dr. Don Crittenden. Elder Mark Sprague reported on updates needed on Grace Hall and Fellowship Hall. The associated expenses and the demolition of the Capen Building will total approximately $1,300,000. Session voted to allow the Trustees to oversee any necessary projects.

Elder Jeanie Wendt shared the name of Mission Study Team candidates (who were later approved at the April 29 Congregational Meeting). This team will begin work under Dr. Bianchin's direction.
