Dear Friends,
Thanks to all of our staff and members who worked so hard to
make Holy Week such a deep experience of worship and reflection.
I hope you enjoyed our joyous Easter celebration of Christ's
Resurrection as much as I did! As we continue in Eastertide, I
hope the Lord will deepen our experience of Jesus Christ, risen
and exalted.
Many have asked me for more information about our interim
season. Here are some thoughts. 2PC has been through a number
of major transitions in the past 10 years, including the leadership
of three senior pastors. Some of that change has been difficult, but even the most positive changes (such as the sanctuary construction) cause stress in the life of a church.
Calling a new Senior Pastor is a very important time in the life of 2PC. We want the next Pastor to be a good match for the community, the church as it is and what 2PC hopes for the future. One of my tasks as Interim Pastor is to help 2PC to be clear about who we are now, and to identify a sense of who we aspire to be. This will allow the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) to look for the appropriate pastor to lead us there.
The first step in this process is to elect a Mission Study Team (MST), who will lead us through the Mission Study process. This work will help us understand who we are and where 2PC wants to move in the future. We will elect the MST at our April 29 Congregational Meeting. When the Mission Study is complete we will elect the PNC. At the same time as the Mission Study, Session will look at our current Mission Statement and offer their wisdom to the process.
As you can see, with the election coming in just a few weeks, we want to get started as soon as possible. We will not extend the process any longer than we need to, but it is important also that we not shortcut the process. Good work done in the next few months will reap great dividends as the PNC begins its work.
Please pray for God's guidance in these steps, and please plan to be
at the April 29 meeting.
