Lent - Preparing for Easter
Second Pres will observe Ash Wednesday on February 22 and celebrate Easter Sunday on April 8 with 4 worship services. The journey from Ash Wednesday to Easter is called Lent, a 40-day season of preparation to greet our Risen Savior on Easter morning. There is great value in pausing to reflect as we walk with Jesus to the cross so that they might better appreciate the joy of this day. This year 2PC will prepare itself for Easter in three significant ways. First, we will collaborate together in the all-church study, The Unexpected Adventure. The study will energize your own life of faith. It will help you reinvent your vision of sharing faith so that what might seem daunting or scary becomes exciting and doable. The Unexpected Adventure invites you to see evangelism as a way of being alert to opportunities around you and to sense thepromptings of God's Spirit. The study begins next Sunday, February 26, at 10:10am in Grace Hall after a brief introductory message. You can sign up Sunday in the south entry and buy the $10 class book. Another part of our Lenten preparation is Lenten Moments featuring our Priority Partner, Little Children of the Philippines (LCP). During the Lenten Moments, you will learn more about the people whose faithful service has made LCP a model of compassion and caring. LCP is our oldest mission ministry partner and they are dedicated to reaching out to the street children of Dumaguete City in the Philippines. They serve more than 5,000 children and families who otherwise would be exploited and suffer the effects of extreme poverty. As a result of the LCP ministry, thousands of children now live healthy and productive lives because LCP gave them a bridge to a better tomorrow. Along the way many of them gave their lives to Jesus. We will also participate in a special Easter morning offering to purchase sausage-making equipment for LCP. This equipment will empower the local people to a more self-sustaining livelihood. In addition, 2PC children will be able to share their offering to pre-purchase Christmas toys for the LCP children. Using the Lenten offering boxes available on Ash Wednesday, children and families will practice the discipline of self-sacrifice with a purpose. Just as we gave it up for Chiapas, we can work toward a goal of $15,000 as we Give it up for LCP! In Christ, Dr. Don CrittendenPastor/Acting Head of Staff

It includes the imposition of ashes which reminds us of our sinfulness, mortality and our need for a Savior. The sign of the cross reminds us of the good news that through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ we have forgiveness of sins and new life in Christ.
