Communication...room for improvement?
Andrea and I are so thankful to God for your love and support as we have welcomed our daughter, Eve, into our family. One of the things we pray for is wisdom on how to be both good parents and good pastors. Thanks for bearing with us as we figure out what that looks like and enter into this new chapter of life. One thing we know is that in order to be good pastors and good parents, it's important to keep our marriage strong. Marriage, just like any other human relationship, takes work to keep strong. Marriage, just like any other human relationship, also affects our other relationships if it's off balance or heading into dangerous territory. It's easy to overlook our marriages and family relationships since they're constant. We see our spouse, our kids and our parents on a daily basis. We get into routines of living and habits of communicating that become familiar and safe, even if they aren't the best routines and habits for our relationships. Certain subjects go untouched, problems are averted instead of confronted, and transparent communication soon becomes difficult. If you're a married couple, why not work on your relationship? It's never too late or too early. There's nothing "wrong" with your marriage if you intentionally work on it to make it stronger. In fact, you're honoring your commitment to one another if you do! Last fall some couples in the church came together to restart a marriage ministry at 2PC. For now, the emphasis is on quarterly events that cover various key topics that contribute to healthy marriages. On Friday, February 17, at 6:30pm we're looking at how to better communicate with our spouse. If you think you're communicating well with your spouse, why not confirm that with your spouse? If this sounds like something you couldn't ask or you think is silly to ask, maybe it's time to start that conversation. You can call the church office to reserve your spot at this event or look for the table in the south entry Sunday morning. Another opportunity to strengthen relationships both inside and outside 2PC is by participating in the Lenten All-Church Study. The February 26-March 25 study, The Unexpected Adventure: Be a Contagious Christian, will help us find out how to take everyday risks to share Jesus with those around us. We'll examine our current context, God's story to communicate, our own story and how to practically put God's story and our story together. Sign-ups continue in the south entry Sunday and books are $10. Peace, Dean Rev. Dean Kladder
