All Convention All the Time
| A special message from the RAA Associate Member Council Chair
 | | André Robert, RAA AMC Chairman |
Dear RAA Members and Friends,
The 37th Annual RAA Convention & Tradeshow in Minneapolis is fast approaching, and the AMC is looking forward to helping make this year's event a big success.
We're kicking things off bright and early Monday morning with the Golf Tournament at the beautiful Towne and Country Club established in 1888. Rob Miller (Accommodations Plus Intl) and John Buckley (Superjet Intl) are working with RAA's Diana Lundie to organize another great outing for the golfing membership. There are still opportunities for hole sponsorships and prizes, so please contact Diana to support the event. We're happy to announce that Kevin Shea (Perrone Aerospace) and Mike Kenealy (STS Aviation Group) are running the Silent Auction this year. Proceeds from the auction are directed toward the RAA scholarships. Last year, we raised over $8,000 in support of the scholarship program and we look forward to surpassing that mark this year, especially since we opened up the program to a larger number of colleges. Prize donations can be made here!
We take the opportunity to thank Rick Townsend (Ascent Aviation) and Howard Thrall (Mitsubishi) for stepping up to manage the scholarship selection process. Finally, we're relying once again this year on Jerry Schumacher (US Technical), with the assistance of Brad Darpel (Precision Electronics), to organize the Purchasing Forum. Jerry has done a great job in past years pulling this event together, and with Brad's help this year, we're expecting many positive outcomes following Thursday morning's session. The AMC is looking forward to seeing you all in Minneapolis next month!
André Robert

RAA leads breakout sessions at WATS 2012
|
 | | RAA Senior Director-Industry & Regulatory Affairs Liam Connolly at the RAA booth during WATS 2012 in Orlando. |
The Pilot Qualification Proposed Rule and Pilot Labor Supply dominated the presentations and exhibit hall conversations during last week's WATS 2012 in Orlando, FL--a three-day event hosted by Halldale Media focused on training for pilots, flight attendants and mechanics. RAA participated with a booth and Regional Airline Training breakout sessions featuring both airline members and other key stakeholders.
The first RAA Flight Training Committee breakout session highlighted the anticipated demand for pilots, along with critical issues and challenges to attract and maintain the professional pilot work force. Moderated by Air Wisconsin Captain Paul Preidecker, panelists included ExpressJet Captain Darrin Greubel, UND Professor Kent Lovelace, A4A Director-Operations Paul Railsback and FAA's Captain Robert Burke.
A second breakout session, led by Moderator Trans States Captain Keith Stamper, focused on both the challenges and rewards of preparing for airline service. Cape Air Captain Craig Bentley and SkyWest Airlines Captain Shane Losee talked about what regional airlines are looking for in pilots, while First Officers Jory Striegel/Air Wisconsin and John Colquitt/American Eagle gave a first-hand perspective at being selected, trained and flying for today's regional airlines.
