• Interested how others handle this. Graphic artists obviously make a living solely on their artwork fee. I think it about expectations- like the doctor/chemist relationship: we pay the chemist for product and expect his advice for free while being happy to pay the doctor for just advice.
• I been feel I have been less successful in jobs that I have applied an upfront artwork fee. I miss the job and/or the customer will try to negotiate to avoid it thinking they can/have supplied "job ready" artwork- which it rarely is the case.
• As a result unless it is exceptional, I do not itemise it separately in quotes.
• Bonus = I sometimes then pick up extra profit on job repeats.
• We charge per hour ($85.00) and itemise it on the Invoice. However, we do not produce artwork, UNTIL the job is confirmed! That stops people getting us to prepare "proofs" then taking our artwork somewhere else to print!
• Itemise it. The truth is always the best policy. If the client wants to argue on price, it's better to have all your items listed, so they can understand what goes into a job. If you hide things from your clients, they will naturally think that you are ripping them off.
• Quote it as an hourly rate and charge it this way - otherwise you could be way out of pocket with some customers. If it is simple and the customer has been easy to work with most times I will do it free of charge.
• It really depends on the job. If it's a standard sign with a normal setup of about 1/4 of an hour then it would be built into the price but if anymore time was spent then we would itemise the artwork. If you don't, then the customer may think the sign is too expensive not realising you have spent an hour on design as well.
• Sometimes both ways usualy charged seperate.
• fees form $ 45.00. sometimes included sometimes separate, depends on job quote.
• I charge for one of digitizing by the hour and/or basic setup for artwork supplied. BUT also absorb artwork into larger jobs where possible.
• We itemise it as I would prefer not to design anymore and just print where possible, so if they think they can get a better deal on the artwork elsewhere and just come to us for printing, I am more than happy!
• artwork is charged at 10% over the rate the graphic artist charges.
• We are starting to charge it as a separate item. This helps the client appreciate that our time is worth money. In any other type of graphics re; brochure design, business cards the artwork is the profitable portion so it is essential that it is charged.
• I don't normally list it if it is a large job, but most smaller jobs I do as the artwork content can be as much as the job itself in some instances. People have grandiose ideas, and have no conception of the time involved.
• We always charge the artwork sepaeratley as this is a once only charge.
• Itemise seperately as it is important that it does not become part o the cost of production, it is a seperate cost centre.
