• I am a female that has worked in the business for 35 years on my own & in partnership with a man. Once this partnership ended I changed the name of the business to my name, as this is what most of my customers knew me by. Over the years I have had a few customers say they chose me because I am a women, this seems to be one of best selling features recently as Ive had three customers say this that is why they chose my business out of the yellow pages., & no they were not all women customers. I have been praised for my communication skills (listening to what the customer wants & not trying to tell them what they need & then suggesting the best way as I see it on what is required) & attention to detail. I am only small family business working with my son, but if I was to employ anyone else for anything other than installation ( I employ males when needed for big install jobs) it would probably be a woman.
• I think this industry needs a good kick up the backside when it comes to the employment of woman and how they are treated. An industry where a van promoting the NZSDA has a prominently displayed young woman in a bikini exemplifies the laddish behaviour that exists. I employ woman in my workshop and men as well. The woman are talented, efficient, polite, follow systems and just get on with the job at hand without any drama. I wish I could say the same about the men. My focus is to have a pleasant and professional workshop floor where both sexes work as a team and excel at their own strengths. Zero tolerance on swearing and no naked calendars.
• She is a recently started 1st year apprentice.
• We employ in excress of 400 people across our various branches and I have to say we have less problems with the women but when it comes to their workmanship, I would say that they are both very similar.
• We have a second year Apprentice Signwriter. She is organised, efficient, intelligent, self motivated and requires minimum supervision. She was a standout during the interview process and is a great asset for the business. She is good at following procedures and is generally careful with her work. There is definately a place for females in any business but as far as taking more care that is more a personal trait and is not influenced by gender in my opinion.
• There should be no difference for the standard of work for either male or female. both sex's have the same ability to have pride in their work but it is the individual who has the mental capability to be responsible and accountible for that quality. However I found in the past that when you are more of a manufacturing company and not just a sticker or print application sign shop the women do not have the physical strength required to perform many of the tasks required.
• They are just as careless as anyone else. It comes down to attitue not gender.
• Interesting question, borders on sterotyping.
• Over the last 6 years or so our Production team has moved from nearly exclusively male to about 60/40 male/female. Our experience is that the 'attention to detail' skill is not directly associated with femaleness. Some of our guys are demon for detail others less so.
• Less Gung Ho. Check their work more carefully and have a greater eye for detail. Also use for installing and get great reports back from clients as to quality of work and their customer service skills.
• I have always found that females are better at the intricate work and take more pride in their work.
• Only on a 'as needs basis'. We have a Mum who fits in when needed. Definitely take more care in the work they do as well as having a better relationship with customers.
• They give more attention to detail and is conscientious.
• I have a female that works on the shop floor and would be lost without her. Yes she does have an excellent eye for detail and because our products are used in commercial aircraft, quality, perfection and attention to detail are paramount, all of which she manages admirably.
• Bit of a stupid question since the best worker comes from experience and attitude not whether its a female or a male. Also depends on the level of coaching that is given to each employee.
• I would like to say women but in all truthfulness, it is difficult to say since we employ both women and men and there are some stars in both. Mind you there are some others as well, also from both genders.

(QLD, Brisbane Binding Machine Rhino-O-Tuff includes 4 x die's which are Comb, Wire and continuous coil (the wire is 3-1 and 3-2 with the 3-2 needing a new screw to allow it to enter the binder)
We never use the 3-2 as we have had no need to and never replaced it.
It will take around 27pp at a time to punch and we purchased it new for $3500 and only want $1000 for a quick sale.
