"What Can I Do" Environmental Concerts
| "What Can I Do?" Multimedia Environmental Concerts is officially launched!!!
 | Laurie Dameron |
"Some of you may have heard of Kickstarter.com or IndieGoGo.com. They are called "Crowdfunding Sites" or "Crowdfunding Startups" and they help people raise money for projects. They would not accept my project as they consider it as "for a cause". But what a good cause, right? The Denver Musicians Association of which I am a member has graciously stepped up to help out. Their 501(c)3, nonprofit arm, "Our Musical Heritage" is "partnering" with me and making it possible to seek tax deductible donations that I need to raise money for a projector, screen, promotion and other business expenses.
This is a 60-75 minute educational keynote presentation featuring the photography of John Fielder, Karl Snyder and Laurie Dameron, video, information and live music. Some may think I am preaching to the choir on environmental issues in Colorado but consider that in 2010 the city of San Francisco boasted a diversion rate of 85%. (Diversion rate is how much material is diverted from the land fill by recycling, compost, reducing and reusing) The same year Boulder's diversion rate was 35%! I think we can do better! THANKS FOR SUPPORTING LOCAL MUSIC!!! For more info and please visit "What Can I Do?" and LIKE on FB: http://www.facebook.com/pages/What-Can-I-Do/111692528975283 Please make checks payable to "Our Musical Heritage" and in the memo line write "What Can I Do? project" Concert Schedule More Information www.lauriedameron.com/

Cincinnati sales, attendance increase
| Janelle Gelfand Cincinnati Enquirer August 4, 2012
At a challenging time for orchestras and when the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra was between music directors, the orchestra increased both its subscription sales and attendance last season.
And in one of the largest concert halls in the world, 3,417-seat Music Hall, the orchestra reported four sold-out concerts, including a single-night performance by violin legend Izhak Perlman. The Cincinnati Pops sold out two performances.
Average attendance for classical concerts at Music Hall was 1,891, an increase of nearly 8 percent. That uptick follows a banner year the previous season - Paavo Järvi's last as music director - that saw a jump in attendance of 11.5 percent. Symphony subscriptions climbed 3 percent. Read On

Local Music Teacher Scam
|
Scams that seek payments and credit info are alive and well. One of our members was contacted by Rose Magreth. Her initial contact was via text message from 205-277-7227. She was looking for a music teacher. She asks about cost of lessons. She uses and email address of rose_magreth@yahoo.com. It appears legit, until the payment she suggests. She want to use and agent to sent you the money. She claims to have a 16 year old daughter who is serious about lessons. She uses very broken english in her email responses.
From a search on the internet she is also targets art teachers and ballet instructors

Deja Blu - searching for Bass Player: vocals a +
|
Deja Blu is an established regional 5 piece dance band with a female lead singer. We are going into our 12th year of making music. All of us sing. We have a packed summer schedule filled with weddings, summer festivals and corporate events. While the money is very good, we are all mature, seasoned players who have full time jobs that are flexible and allow for some travel.
This is a part time job working for one of Colorado's premier dance bands. We average 40-50 shows/year. We work with a full time sound man, have a full time manager who takes care of the business end of things and we own our high end PA System with lights.
We are looking for a male with years of stage experience who is versatile, a very quick learner, has chops that can play a variety of music from Country, Top 40, Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues to Motown. We would love to find someone who can sing a bit.
You must have pro gear & attire (tux & suit), have reliable transportation for mountain travel. Have a cell phone & email account that you check often - it's how we communicate with our manager. Professional appearance is crucial.
Please, no free-lance or guys who play in multiple bands. Sorry, it won't work for us ~ it's just too hard to manage schedules. We all feel very blessed to be at this stage in our lives where we can continue to play with extremely talented musicians who we consider friends and play some very sweet gigs. Looking for like-minded bass players.
Please feel free to call Liz @ (303) 517-9852

We Lack Jobs, Not Skills
| Aug. 9, 2012
The latest Republican economic misdirection is the claim that there are plenty of jobs, just not enough skilled workers to fill them. But with the latest data showing there are 3.4 jobless workers for every job opening, the Economic Policy Institute says, "the main cause of today's persistent high unemployment is a broad-based lack of demand for workers--and not, as is often claimed, available workers lacking skills."

Quiet Song for Band- Grade 1/2, by Debbie Davidson. A great song for the first band concert of the year! It uses the first five notes typically used in band method books, and is inspired by "Bolero." A quiet tune begins with the flutes and then gradually all of the instruments are added for a big climax before it tapers back down to the flutes. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser! $25 Creekside Publishing Company Available mail order through www.creeksidepublishingcompany.com or through Flesher-Hinton. Finale to Beethoven Symphony No. 9- Grade 2+ for full orchestra and SAB chorus, Debbie Davidson. Arranged to make this amazing classic accessible for middle school students. Key signatures and changes are simplified. Vocal parts are all doubled, and the Baritone part is optional. An advanced part is included for extra support - when this piece was premiered at Cherry Creek Academy, a teacher played this advanced part on the cello and an advanced piano student played it on piano. Most of the second parts (i.e. second clarinet, second flute, second violin) can be handled by students in their second year of instruction. The Cherry Creek Academy performance involved singers, grades 5 - 8, band members, grades 6 - 8, and orchestra members, grades 6-8. $65 Creekside Publishing Company Availabe mail order through www.creeksidepublishingcompany.com or through Flesher-Hinton.
