COLORADO SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION AND DENVER MUSICIANS ASSOCIATION RATIFY CONTRACT
New three-year agreement paves the way for a sustainable future and meaningful programming for Colorado Symphony and the communities it serves
DENVER - April 19, 2011 - The Colorado Symphony today announced that it has ratified a new three-year agreement with the Denver Musicians Association - Local 20-623 of the American Federation of Musicians in Denver, Colorado - on behalf of the musicians of the Colorado Symphony. The new agreement paves the way for the Colorado Symphony to finish institutional visioning work and launch an intensive long-range planning process. In addition, new community-focused concerts and educational programming will remain a focus, all the while continuing plans for the renovation of Boettcher Concert Hall and the search for a new music director.
"As a result of this new, three-year agreement with the Denver Musicians Association, the Colorado Symphony can now focus on building on its successful track record of increasing community engagement and serving a vital role as the cornerstone of the performing arts in Colorado," said James W. Palermo, CEO, Colorado Symphony. "We extend our most sincere thanks to both the Colorado Symphony musicians and our Board of Trustees for their patience and dedication during this process. By working diligently together, all parties successfully reached an agreement that will allow the Colorado Symphony to continue to thrive and serve the community with meaningful programs."
"As professional musicians, we have the utmost commitment to the people and communities we serve, whether it is through music education, outreach programs, or live performances," said Pete Vriesenga, president, Denver Musicians Association. "The new agreement with the Colorado Symphony will provide a longer-term foundation for the musicians of the orchestra to maintain this important commitment to the residents of Colorado. We are thankful to the Colorado Symphony Association negotiating team including John Hayes, James Palermo and Bob Ireland, and with special thanks to the Board of Trustees, for partnering with us to finalize the three-year agreement."

Board of Philadelphia Orchestra Votes to File for Bankruptcy
|
April 16, 2011 By DANIEL J. WAKIN The New York Times 5:22 p.m. | Updated The Philadelphia Orchestra's program Saturday night was to include music from the Berg opera "Lulu," and the ensemble hopes to avoid the protagonist's tawdry end. The board of the Philadelphia Orchestra's program voted Saturday to file for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11. Unlike Lulu, who died at the hands of Jack the Ripper, the orchestra will live on, rehearsing and continuing to give concerts while a bankruptcy court judges considers the case. Read On

Englewood Arts Presents, 4/23
|
Date: Saturday, April 23, 2011
Time: 2:00 pm
ENGLEWOOD ARTS PRESENTS continues its Chamber Music of the Masters series with a performance of Mozart's Serenade No. 10 for winds in B-flat major, K. 361/370a.
The Serenade, known sometimes as the 'Gran Partita' from a later, misspelt addition to the title-page of the autograph, seems to have been written sometime between 1781 and 1784. Accounts vary and are inconclusive.
Most serenades in Mozart's time were meant as eighteenth-century background 'Muzak,' for engagement and garden parties, weddings, dinners, and other festive occasions. The Gran Partita is different ~ a vast and glorious work, filled with emotion and intense beauty which falls into the category of real concert music.
The serenade is scored for two oboes, two clarinets, two basset-horns, four horns, two bassoons and double-bass and is in seven movements.

Working Professional Dance Band Seeks Keyboard Player/Lead Singer (Male) |
We are:
- A well known, established professional dance band that has been playing for over 10 years. We play primarily weddings, corporate events, summer festivals and private parties.
- Based in Denver and practice 1/x week
- 5 members who all sing (lead guitar/drums/bass/keys with a lead female singer) We work with a full time sound man and a sax player for many of our shows
- The music is a variety of Classic Rock, Top 40, Motown, Soul, Blues, Country Rock and Jazz
- We all have day jobs but have flexible schedules that allow for a few out of state gigs & weekday festivals during the summer.
- We keep very busy with about 40-50 shows per year. Excellent money.
- We are independently managed. We have a business manager who handles the bookings, promotion, our web site and marketing
What we hope to find: - An experienced keyboard player who can also cover the lead male singer role. Must have an ear for harmonies. All of us sing and 3 part harmony is vital to this band.
- Strong, dynamic tenor voice with power and range. This is a key role in the band and we are looking for great stage presence.
- Must have prior stage experience and must come to the table with a wide repertoire of songs that most variety dance bands cover from the 60's to today's hits.
- Ability and willingness to learn new songs that have been requested from clients
Someone who will make a commitment to this band. Not looking for a hired gun. None of the current musicians play in other bands, which we believe, contributes to our tight sound. Please have MP3 files or You Tube Videos and a bio. Please list the bands you have been in. We are starting our busy season now and our schedule is such that we would like to see/hear you first. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person who is willing to dedicate himself to making great music, making some great money and having fun. Please respond to band@indra.com

Song for Band- Grade 1/2, by Debbie Davidson. A great song for the
first band concert of the year! It uses the first five notes typically used in
band method books, and is inspired by "Bolero." A quiet tune begins with the
flutes and then gradually all of the instruments are added for a big climax
before it tapers back down to the flutes. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser! $25

for full orchestra and SAB chorus, Debbie Davidson. Arranged to make this
amazing classic accessible for middle school students. Key signatures and
changes are simplified. Vocal parts are all doubled, and the Baritone part is
optional. An advanced part is included for extra support - when this piece was
premiered at Cherry Creek Academy, a teacher played this advanced part on the
cello and an advanced piano student played it on piano. Most of the second parts
(i.e. second clarinet, second flute, second violin) can be handled by students
in their second year of instruction. The Cherry Creek Academy performance
involved singers, grades 5 - 8, band members, grades 6 - 8, and orchestra
members, grades 6-8. $65 Creekside Publishing Company Availabe mail order
